Feature Update: Groups, notifications and more
A couple of long requested updates went live overnight. Also, we're aware of the chat message preview issue (its related to trying to fix the symbols bug) and should hopefully be squared away later today.
- The list of guided discussions taking place in group chats now includes the name of the room it is taking place in (click "Live guided discussions" when in group chat on the website)
- Featured forum threads are back in the notifications bell on the website
- The text explaining what type of profile picture to use has been changed
Have a good day!
@Jon7Cups
Thank you for the updates, Jon! ❤ I am loving all these updates.
@Jon7Cups
Thank you for the updates and for being totally amazing at what y'all do!💗
I can't help but ask though, Will the alerts be back under the notification bell icon also?
I feel, the visibility (and consequently, the purpose) of alerts (the site-wide ones like site update posts, forum discussions, various forms etc) has been severely impacted (negatively) in the last update where they show under the "community updates" section on our profiles.
I've definitely seen some people complain on and off about a certain "overload" of these alerts at times though, guessing if that was one reason to have them removed to a less-visible place?
Personally, I liked seeing the alerts in one place, also like in a more "see meeeee" place instead of having to intentionally scroll through the page to find some community-updates/ alerts. I feel, it's not too much of a hassle to click on the little cross to make it disappear, if needed, of course.
@Sunisshiningandsoareyou thanks for the support. Yes the location of alerts is quite a tricky one. Site wide alerts are sent to all users and are not personal notifications (in the way the "X upvoted your post" is a personal notification). And many alerts are sent out every day/week - so for more casual or newbie users it gets overwhelming really quickly. Hence why the site wide non-personal alerts have been moved to the community updates section. Am sure there might be an even better location so open to ideas.
Update: the message preview in chats should now be working again. If you send a message you should see it populate the preview section as per normal. Historical previews are not viewable and could not be repopulated.
@Jon7Cups what does the 3rd point mean? I thought this would be in settings, but it's still the same outdated info.
@AffyAvo
In my "Settings" it has changed.
Previously it was suggested as the first option to upload a photo portrait of yourself.
Now the first suggestion is "nature scene, art/symbol/image (i.e. hope), or animal."
Below it clarifies that "While you have the option to use a photo of yourself, please remember that our platform is anonymous and to be mindful of your safety when making the choice to upload personal photos."
Fewer portraits will reduce harassment and prevent finding people by image searches, I think.
@HealingTalk I still have this
Please do not include pictures of famous people, sexually suggestive pics, or cartoon pics. We recommend choosing a nature scene, art/symbol/image (i.e. hope), or animal. The goal of the picture is to express warmth, compassion, and kindness. While you have the option to use a photo of yourself, please remember that our platform is anonymous and to be mindful of your safety when making the choice to upload personal photos. Images must be in JPG or PNG format and less than 5MB. Thank you!
@AffyAvo Ok yes, I guess some is different. Why is the part about cartoons still there? The minion image has been used as a suggested option for so long.
@AffyAvo
You are right! Anime characters, for example, are much used, they are cute and fitting to the Cups spirit.
It might be a minor editing confusion that will be eventually corrected. It happens to all of us when copy-pasting text.
@HealingTalk Thanks for giving the details of this. I was exhausted a few days ago, and since changing the wording of cartoons was brought up quite some time ago I got a bit tunnel vision focused on that.
The change of the wording about using pictures is a helpful change!
@Jon7Cups
Wow! Featured thread notifications are back!
This is so, so important!
Something to celebrate! 🍸🍸 🎆 🎆 🎈 🎈 🎈
Also, not promoting portraits will reduce harassment and increase safety, I think.
Thanks a ton for all this!
@Jon7CupsI I experience difficulty when using 7cups app on my phone. The help texts/guides always get in the way of whatever I am typing. It is as if the help texts/guides replies to every chat I sent to the member as a listener.
