@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn A bug I do not see there: able to warn/mute other mods (I can pm you how, I don't think it's appropriate to say here)
Can we get the extend the chat box on there too? I miss being able to extend the screen so the comments fill completely from the top to bottom.
@AffyAvo so true, I miss that too!
@Ace13--Let's get that suggestion going. Here's a link to the listener suggestion box. I'll fill it out now. Let's spread the link to others who are interested in that also.
@AffyAvo--I miss that also!! That's not really a bug....it's a suggestion. Affy, here's a link to the member suggestion box. Feel free to make the suggestion and pass the link to others who feel the same way.
@RocketsMom
yeah, it's a fine line. I'm calling this bugs and issues, and something we used to have and lost in the redesign can be thought of as a bug, in a sense, even if not technically a bug.
@RocketsMom I had filled out the form for the site update suggestions.
For me, if I have a private message to go back to and it's below the top four or five conversations, if I scroll down it returns me to the top instantly. It makes responding to POSTS very difficult.
@Roadie - Yes yes yes! This has made it WAY harder for me to keep up with and follow up with my members, but would be a huge win.
In the old system, I believe it was a separate scroll box for the conversations list - not sure if that was what kept this issue from occurring or if it's just a bug right now, but I would LOVE to see it worked out! :)
@Anomalia & @Roadie
Yes!! This is a big issue! I used to think it only did that if someone sent me a PM while I was scrolling down but now it does it all the time. If you're not super quick, you're kind of out of luck :(. @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn, can this get added to the list pretty soon? If you're not sure what we're referring to, feel free to PM me and I'll explain in more detail. Thanks!
@RocketsMom
LOL.. I thought it was only me that it affected for some reason :)
@RocketsMom
can someone write up clearly the expected/desired vs. actual behavior and submit it as a suggestion or support ticket / bug report and we will get it prioritized.
also, when responding to this thread with new bugs, please let me know if you think it belongs on the top ten list and what you'd kick off to make room for it.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
I would personally prioritize it over most of the other bugs, but in terms of value to community, I would at minimum place it above numbers 3 and 6. Both of those, to me, feel like nice to have things, but not having them is not actually limiting the ability to provide good support to members, where as this one is limiting the ability to find conversations that need follow-ups, get to unread messages if they've fallen down the list, etc. and ultimately leading me (and others, I assume) to provide lower quality support.
In terms of exactly what is happening, I'll defer to someone who can offer a more technical solution, but effectively if I am trying to look at my current conversations below the top 3, I click the arrow to open the full list. Then, when I scroll my browser page down to view the list, I get snapped back to the top, rather than letting me scroll through, look carefully, work at my pace, etc. Often, even if I know exactly what conversation I'm going for, it can take me 4-5 tries before I'm fast enough to click on it before the page forces me back up to the top.
Hope that helps! :)
@AnomaliaAnomalia what does it look like or what moves or changes shape or position when you get "snapped back to the top"?
Before/after screenshot?
ok, @anomalia @roadie, et al.: @rocketsmom explained it to me in PM and I understand the problem and have some ideas for how to fix it. will add to the backlog and prioritize.
Not sure if this is the right place to post it...but I just wanted to say thanks to Krink and all of the others that are working to make this site work from the tech side of things. Really appreciate all the extra hours and work you put in, to work out the bugs and any other issues that are happening, or just to make things more user friendly and "pretty". I'm excited to see some of those top 10 things worked through.
You "techies" all rock...thank so much!!
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but it's really confusing when general chat request popups and personal requests have the same audio notification.
Sometimes, when I'm on a different tab, I miss personal requests because I think they're just general chat popups, which complicates things a lot. Would be great if they could have different notification sounds.
@Lursmani
this is an interesting point! can you make a suggestion so we can keep track of it?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn I'f love to! Where do I make the suggestion?
@Lursmani
there is a link to the suggestion box (it's different for listeners and members) at the bottom of the Support & Feedback page.
it's bother-the-unicorn day;
don't mind me.
i know this isn't the place for this,
but here i'm pink! :o
- Some feed posts still need to be restored (not all will be ecoverable, but we can check for any that are still missing)
ouch
- Email notifications of offline messages not working for some (I need more info to track down when and for whom this is happening)
is this the same bug that sometimes (especially when my computer has gone to sleep & i wake it up, usually with 7cups in the foreground) i don't receieve new messages?
i only tentatively ask because the bulk of the problem i have (minor) is with receiving / being notified of messages when offline.
it seems like you fixed the out-of-order messages (i think... haven't noticed them recently), but still my primary listener and i lose messages probably once per 500-1000?
so like daily,
but probably nbd & not the same unless it's somehow related to an online state flag,
or ff on win10, in which case disregard
i am rambling incoherent.
please excuse
& provide blood
btw i can repro this sleep / offline message thing 100% i just got home to check.
whether that's an actual issue is for you to decide, huh :3c
also my messages were out of order when i reloaded lal.
but i mean who even does what i do, no one that's who.
*poofs in a cloud of bunnies?*
@hugglecat
yes messages still get out of order in some cases... it's a tricky one.
I think you may have put your finger on why/how some people are not getting push notifications. Because it's true that push notifications are only sent if the notifications are not already delivered in-app, so having the site up on a browser will, I think (ccing @ezraBC so he can correct me if I'm wrong), prevent push notifications from coming to the phone.
If this is so, first we have to determine if that is the right behavior to design for (and if so, then people need to be aware of how it works). Or if we need to change the "rules" we can do that too.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn yeah if you're doing it 100% with push notifications that get flagged as "done" when received, period, that would explain lots. it could possibly even explain getting messages in my listener list but not my conversation sometimes (if those are two separate socket listeners instead of the message being loaded once & passed, for some reason), but it would definitely explain why i don't get messages in the chat when i have the forums up (messages are delivered to idle forum window, marked as read, not pushed to actual chat window). i still wouldn't always get every message, but if you're marking them as read under the wrong conditions, i can see that leading to things having been "read" without me being so much as notified.
but there are a number of other things that, yeah. let's just say that if the website is dependent on this behaviour, you might want to patch in a pull with last recv'd message id on window focus (not 100% sure what the best event would be); would solve a lot of my "undelivered message" problems, if that is the problem. barring that, i'm afraid i don't know your system well enough to be of any help in actually solving the problem.
i can think on it for a while, but i'm afraid unless you're improperly tracking socket connects & disconnects, i would still only be able to solve your problems theoretically :P
but i've heard that javascript sockets are notoriously glitchy (and i just looked up, and there isn't usually a disconnect notification when the computer goes to sleep--ouch). so it probably has something to do with the browser / app disconnecting from the server, but not knowing it's disconnected (edit--apparently this also does not fire a disconnect notification to the server). which might put this client side in your javascript socket handler, at least in some cases.
but, like i said, you can repro at least one glitch by connecting to a listener, putting your computer to sleep, being sent messages and waking your computer up. and that's a shitty problem to solve, but solving it properly would probably solve all your client-side chat issues.
and actually i'm fairly sure i know a solution to this problem, but you'd hate it, it's a horrible solution, and i'm not 100% sure it works with wss, only ws. and i will probably actually test this today, because it's terribly relevant to my current project whether my method works, even if it isn't right for your purposes.
@hugglecat hate to reply to myself, but i did some research and it turns out websockets are just horrible. the closest i can come to anything that could resemble a solution that you're not going to stumble upon immediately is that if you don't have reconnection delay set on your socket.io (which i'm just assuming is what you're using--i don't honestly care and please don't tell me), the reconnection delay will increase exponentially without limit. it's a "feature"! :D
but once you're aware that disconnect doesn't actually fire on sleep of phone/computer and may not actually fire on power off or loss of connection... you realise that there is no straight solution, except to understand~
like you can under-the-hood or straight up code heartbeating if that's your problem but it's an ugly solution to an ugly problem. and there's a PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK on android that keeps the phone awake. this is assuming that's part of the problem. :P
or the issue could just be with your read flags.
sometimes bunnyholes are very deep and i promise to stop bothering you about this issue now, but it was one that interested me :x
you have your work cut out of you! but I wanted to add another one for the backlog:
Personal requests should expire, especially if the person making the request was a guest and their account wasn't converted. there's no way to even answer these once the day has passed. But even other people, after a day or more, if the listener has signed in but not responded, I feel the personal request should disappear after some time, instead of us having to X out of them. Thanks!
@bubblyLove47
can you make that suggestion in the suggestion box (linked from the Support & Feedback page)
I don't want to lose good suggestions!
Notification menu does not scroll
- I was looking through the forums to see if this was already mentioned before posting a repeat suggestion and I see that adding the ability to scroll through the notification menu is #2 on your honey-do list of fixes and updates you plan to tackle. - I hope you have a few people helping you with these tasks and are not trying to tackle it all on your own.
@Julie22
we have two amazing developers who make these fixes (and build everything you see) and i mostly do the planning and organizing and some of the design work and such.
thanks!
@Julie22 - fixed!
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
I know it is something small but, I seriously love the ability to scroll through the notifications. Thank you! You and your team are amazing!
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn,
this little fix is amazing! I love how you and the whole team make these little changes which impact the general user experience in the unbelievable positive way. Well done! Really thankful for that scroll bar ^^;
