Listener Queue Suggestion

tealPark1424 June 7th, 2020

Let members finish with the Noni bot before they are added to the queue.

Many listeners blindly accept members' connect request without knowing what they are going to talk about, which I find disrespectful and annoying. All of the "good"/verified listeners (found via search) are either too busy or too cool to talk.

@tealPark1424 I "blindly" accept requests because I'm happy to talk about anything at all. I don't need to know in advance. I don't really understand what's disrespectful or annoying about being happy to talk about anything at all.

Also, when members do indicate what they want to talk about, I find the chat often ends up being about something else anyway.

I'm only available to chat occasionally because I get interrupted a lot in real life. I only start a chat on 7 Cups if I expect uninterrupted privacy for at least half an hour, and preferably an hour or more. But there are many times (like now) when I get a few minutes to reply to messages or in the forum.

You're right to point out that many good listeners stop taking chats altogether and get very busy with other things. I joined 7 Cups to be a listener, and I've always avoided being drawn away from listening.

I kind of like your idea about Noni, but I think it should be optional.

Another idea would be to make listeners queue, so that members don't have to wait. At present there are 8 members waiting in the queue, and 93 listeners online (with Chat Now buttons active). The system could allocate the best available listener automatically without any delay, if anyone wanted to work on the system.

@tealPark1424 I do understand your point about not being able to finish with Noni before you've been selected. I've experienced this too on my member account, where I want to put in my topic but before I know it I've been picked up already - I find at least that part a little annoying. I just like having my topic out there, mostly just to avoid the odd times when people don't take chats regarding the topic, and also because as a listener I know I like to get a general idea of what someone may want to discuss :)

But I think there's nothing wrong with listeners being open to any chat at all, especially considering many times topics aren't listed, and as @RarelyCharlie mentioned, often times chats jump around to different topics than originally stated anyways. I would also like the idea of reversing the queue, so that it is members picking from waiting listeners, or the automatic matching...as long as the listeners listed as available actually are at the time

An automatic matching system would be OK.

I still think it's annoying. Let me finish talking and breathe.

Sure, some people may want to talk about anything (if they say so!)... do they really? I don't think so. Not everyone, not all the time.

I've just decided to ignore and block, although it gets tedious. One time messages ended up being forwarded to the last listener I connected with (and chatted with) which was kinda weird. Have to always restart connection requests from the very beginning.
