7 Cups Crowdunder - Need Your Thoughts!

fancifularrow55 October 24th, 2019

Hi everyone! My name's Alex and I'm going to be working on the crowdunder with 7 Cups. I'm very excited about this and would really welcome everyone's input!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, then I'd recommend having a read of this thread here.

I wanted to explain why we're doing a crowdfunder and I think it could be a good fit for the platform.

Crowdfunders massively help to raise awareness for a platform which will be great for 7 Cups and help more and more people to see what we're doing and hopefully become part of the platform too. For me, I also think it's a way to make the community feel like they're involved and part of a really big project that can make some tremendous difference in the world.

Since a crowdfunder has to be about a specific thing that is being built - in this case the Empower platform - its much more concrete than the way you might normally donate to something. I know personally as a listener I have really valued being part of 7 Cups and have often felt as though I'd like to take it to the next level since after a really good chat with somebody I have had a sense of - wow, this really works!

So for me that's what the crowdfunder means. I'd be interested to know how you guys think about it too though. Let me know what you think!

@fancifularrow55 Hi Alex! Obviously there's a small issue with spelling Winking In fact it's a big issue in terms of making the project look professional to potential donors, although it doesn't matter so much here in our forums.

A much bigger issue is that the name Empower is already established in the tech crowdfunding world. It's a Texas Tech University platform.

A third issue is that it's not yet clear to anyone why yet another platform is needed. I'm sure someone can easily explain this to everyone in simple terms, but I don't think anyone actually has.

And a fourth issue is that funding a platform does not, in itself, improve anyone's mental health. I imagine there might be people who are happy to support projects that have real-world outcomes, but who are not as happy to support a project whose end result looks like it is just software.

Fixing the typos would definitely help. I really thought this was something I hadn't heard of before, especially as the typo is repeated the 2nd time the word is used.
