I (as a self-harmer) really enjoy looking at other people self-harm scars. If a person (in a video, for example) have them I stop the video to take a better look at them, staring at them. Why?

@Blahnkappa

Interests in "bad" or "darker" things don't always have to make sense. Millions of people also love really gory horror movies with lots of blood and murder and I'm certain the vast majority of them are completely innocent minded people.

If I were to guess, I'd say it's probably just interesting to see. Self harm is not often talked about and much less actually shown. Looking at someone else's scars may be comforting for you to see because it makes you feel understood or less alone. There is always a story behind them and they are connected with a lot of emotion.

You really shouldn't be ashamed of finding them interesting. Self harm scars are possibly the clearest reminder that everyone is human and that everyone has a story and has felt immense pain just like you.

They show you that you're never alone in this. ~You never are 💗

Hi there @Blahnkappa, what an interesting question to sit with... I wonder if looking at them makes you feel less alone, if it is somehow comforting to know that you share your struggle with others? I wonder if it is also a sort of reminder for you of SH as a coping mechanism? What do you exactly feel in your body and mind when you look at them?
