Coping Box!
Just came up with a way to cope with harming thoughts: the cope box!
basically, I wrote a few letters to myself for when I feel like harming, listing coping mechanisms and words of encouragement in a box.
then, I put a piece of paper I decorated on top.
on the next layer I put some sensory stuff and essential oils in little piles as well as a lot of cards and things with words like 'I love you' and 'you are beautiful' written by family members to help with my self esteem along with a tally list of how many days clean I am.
then I put the object I use to harm at the very bottom, along with a letter saying there are better ways to cope and that I'm sorry I couldn't see that. I can't bring myself to throw away the harm object as much as I really want to, sadly.
by the time I've done the coping mechanisms and smelled/played with/looked at the sensory items, the urge has gone! I'm currently one week 4 days clean, the best in a while! :)
If you want to use this method, feel free! If you can figure out how to do it, post a picture of your copebox on this thread. (I'll try to figure out how to put a pic of mine.
stay safe!
