Self-Harm Recovery Daily Check-in: Monday October 4, 2021
Hey, everyone! This will be a short one.
Every day, we grow a little. Every step we take on our recovery journey, every time we don't give in to the urges. Every time we do give in but get ack up is a step of growth. Every decision we make and its consequence is growth. Every experience we have has its own little growth hidden inside it. Growth can be found in every little thing we do and don't do. It's everywhere.
You are like a dragon, emerging new from ash.
As the quote says (edited) "Keep moving. It doesn't matter in what direction- as long as you're moving, you're learning and you're growing." I don't know who the author of the quote was, but I love it.
1. How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share?
2. Due to your experience with self-harm, what are three positive qualities you believe you have developed from your struggles?
3. What experience has helped you grow the most? How did you grow from it?
4. What is a food you like that is controversial? For example, I love durian but it is the stinkiest fruit in the world! (I smell it differently haha)
Thank you for checking in and updating us. You are all so valued. <3 Have a good rest of the week!

1. How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share?
Pretty bad. I- I am struggling again. Also, I had a really bad night yesterday (flashbacks, breakdowns and bad memories)- I slept at 6:30 and had school so I had to wake up at 7:30. I am still pretty shaken about the whole thing.
2. Due to your experience with self-harm, what are three positive qualities you believe you have developed from your struggles?
Hiding your problems and learning to manage them instead of depending on people who won't be there for you(wait is that positive or negative?)
I can't think of any other quality I developed
(I was gonna say resilience but then I remembered I've given up on trying to stay clean because I don't have the energy to control and cope in healthier ways. I just go and do sh)
3. What experience has helped you grow the most? How did you grow from it?
Once I was going through a really hard time and the only thing my mom said (after she found out from another source) is what would others think? (I can't say it was after exactly what since it is too triggering for a forum). But after that I realised that no one can be trusted to be there for you when you need people and I had to be strong enough to manage even when there is no one else. The whole thing was really traumatic and it made me grow up and manage things on my own instead of overrelying on others.
4. What is a food you like that is controversial? For example, I love durian but it is the stinkiest fruit in the world! (I smell it differently haha)
I love mixing vanilla and strawberry icecream
1. How are you today? Is there anything you'd like to share?
I'm doing okay, I'm long distance with my boyfriend and he left this morning after staying a few days, I miss him already. I feel very alone at university, but I trust it will get easier.
2. Due to your experience with self-harm, what are three positive qualities you believe you have developed from your struggles?
100% strength as it's so hard to quit but I manage to resist everyday, I can help others better as I know first hand how it feels, and I now know how to get help better
4. What is a food you like that is controversial?
Frozen peas for sure

I’ve recently just come back from a lengthy personal leave. To be honest, things haven’t been going too well. I’ve been really struggling with my emotions which has lead to a lot of old habits resurfacing. It’s been really difficult to try control it but with the support of my partner, I think I got this!
2. Due to your experience with self-harm, what are three positive qualities you believe you have developed from your struggles?
Despite my recent difficulties, over time I’ve learnt to love my body for what it is, I’ve been more accepting of myself and I’ve gained more confidence.
3. What experience has helped you grow the most? How did you grow from it?
I’ve been with my partner for going on 6 years now, and since meeting him, he’s shown me a new love for myself and really helped me be a better person and love myself more. He’s helped me understand that my past is what’s made me the compassionate mother, fiancée and person I am today.

I have a weird obsession with eating raw cookie dough hahah
