Question about Therapy.

oatmealcookie September 8th, 2015

Hi - when I clicked on the "I Need Therapy" link, I found this on that page: "7 Cups of Tea offers free, anonymous, trained active listeners and online therapists."

Are there actually online therapists? If so, how do you find them? I was just wondering if that was something different from the trained active listeners.

Thank you.

I haven't encountered any, but I think some of the listeners might be therapists. I remember seeing on a forum one time a listener that posted that they were a therapist and invited people to ask them questions. Unfortunately, if there are, I believe they're few and far between. I don't think this site has the funding to hire any therapists full time, and very few would put I'm significant time for free, so I don't think this would act as a substitute for therapy

@oatmealcookie

7 Cups of Tea used to have something similar to BlahTherapy where you can pay for an online therapist to help you!

Right now, this doesn't exist anymore and everyone has an active listener role. The listeners who claim to be therapists / psychologists are not verified and shouldn't be providing therapy for ethical (and legal) reasons.

We're trying to bring back therapists an dhigher support systems for mental health though!

Thank you for the info. I've just been having trouble finding a listener that I feel comfortable with. It seems I'm much older than everyone so it's been hard to find anyone who has dealt with the same kinds of things I am dealing with. Thanks again.
