Distant Boyfriend

discreetWater4197 May 10th, 2022

This is my first relationship and I have no idea what I’m doing. But neither does my boyfriend because this is his first real relationship as well. At first, everything was great. We took things slow, communicated well, and he even said “I love you”

but lately he’s been getting distant. And I don’t know how to help. He deals with depression and I know he’s busy and that his parents are really getting on him for his grades, but I’ve just been feeling lonely. I’ve tried talking to him about it and he told me it had nothing to do with me but he hasn’t really let me in on anything else. and now, whenever I try to talk to him outside of school, he’s always busy.

and lately I just feel like he’s kind of abrupt with me. With summer break coming soon, I just want to wait it out so finals and everything is done and hopefully we can get back to the way it was before. I just want to support him, but I also feel like he’s not giving anything into the relationship anymore. I don’t really know what to do.

help?

Give your bf some time. He has depression and is working hard to get good grades, maybe all that is having a negative impact on him resulting in him being "kind of abrupt".

He, probably, is aware of how he is behaving with you and that he isn't able to contribute in making the bond stronger. However, judging by your side of the story, I can say that he's in a mess right now and needs some time for himself. Please just let him concentrate on his exams for now, don't talk much but be supportive. Let him know that you're there for him. Once the exams are over, talk to him about how you had been feeling and ask him if he needs a temporary break from the relationship to sort things out. (No, I'm not talking about a breakup)
