Help for my friend

Hi, I have a friend who is going through a tough time right now with her anxiety. It gets the best of her and actually causes her not to be able to do certain things like going shopping inside stores sometimes and she can’t pinpoint why. It causes her to overthink and have panic attacks. She currently doesn’t have her insurance back for another month or so to get actual help. Does anyone have any tips for handling this? I’d love to be able to help her as she’s helped me with so much.

That’s awesome that you want to help your friend! Every situation is different so as I’m not in your shoes I can’t give advice, though as someone who struggles with anxiety I think just letting your friend know that you are there for them will help a lot. Maybe since they can’t really go shopping you could offer to do that for them? Just being there for them and offering to help in anyway you can even if it’s just something small might make a difference. I hope this helps and that you and your friend will be able to figure everything out.

It is so amazing at you want to help your friend. I wish I had such a friend when going through anxiety<3

Here is a great article that can help to identify what triggers panic attacks https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/liberate-yourself/202201/what-causes-your-panic-attacks

Also, she can try bilateral stimulation. Here are some exercises that helped me a lot: It is simple and can be done in any situation: https://youtu.be/iGGJrqscvtU If you need it urgently, the direct instructions start at the 00.17; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbowIy6kONY (the direct instruction starts on 1.32); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWpqUBgcQlI;

To be capable to manage a panic attack, anxiety it is important to know how to breathe right. Diaphragm breathing helps when you have difficulties to breathe and will help to calm down, here is the link to a video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-_NNCrrdus If you need it urgently, the direct instructions about breathing starts from the 00.43.

Also using this animation for breathing is very easy and useful You can save the link and use it whenever she needs it. Just breath in when the flower opens and out when it closes:
