Psychology book recommendations

TheToastGod September 3rd, 2023

Hey friends! :D

I have always loved psychology and I recently started doing leisure reading and I wanted to get some recommendations for books on psychology. It could be any topic as long as it deals with psychology or even sociology.

Thank you everyone!

Hey there, great question and subject choice(s). :)

My favorite book pertaining to psychology at the moment is The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression by Andrew Solomon. If you have a particular interest in mental health, this is an excellent option. It includes a well-researched, comprehensive history of depression and its various treatment plans, supplemented with a vast array of anecdotes from Solomon and his friends or acquaintances, many of them from other cultures. It is surprisingly moving. He also has a few Ted talks that I highly recommend, as well.

There is a book written by a trauma expert called The Body Keeps the Score. I am probably going to misspell the author's name: Bessel van der Kolk. For an interesting book about human sexuality, there is a book called Sex Before Dawn, which discusses the topic from a sociological, psychological, historical, anthropological, and biological perspective.

One of the fathers of Cognitive Therapy, Aaron Beck, has some amazing books. It's like taking a class, and it's very organized and pragmatic. It feels so good to read, it clears my head. My mind feels sharper when I am done reading a few pages. He has books for depressions, anxiety, etc.
