[TW] Chasing Your Shadow (a poem)

When your light died
I allowed my fire to consume me
Begging to be bright enough for the both of us
But there was nothing left to see
In my illumination
Only abject loneliness
And soot-covered keepsakes
Of a soul mate
Who lived only in my mind these days
I mourned the silhouette of him
Extinguished slowly by my grief
I was kissing frames he'd left behind
In the places the smoke didn't touch
As I slowly burned away
Dimmer
Dimmer now
Dark
I will always love him
But I will not love you anymore
I can't
I have nothing to burn now
No fuel left
For chasing your shadow
