Use This Simple Trick To Beat Procrastination

innateJoy9602 August 29th, 2022

“We have got so much on our plate that it sometimes becomes overwhelming and hard to avoid procrastination. What I have noticed is we mostly procrastinate when the task at hand requires a high amount of energy and time. So, what do we do? We break the task into what can be done in 5 mins. say writing the ideas for your next article.

The idea behind the 5- min rule is to promise your brain to work on small but a specific part of a task for only 5 mins, put a timer, and start working, with the idea that you can quit after 5 mins if you like. 5min rule reduces the fear and anxiety associated with the task which is why you procrastinate in the first place.

The good part is after 5 mins, you will probably end up doing the whole thing. Once you cross the barrier and catch the momentum there’s no looking back.”

I would say, the only time I do struggle with procastination is if I'm watching a youtube video before studying and I end up clicking on the next one instead of starting to study immedeatly after the first one. But in general I'm quite disiplined and don't have issues with procastination

I really like this technique! I can imagine that once I start working on it, I will also finish because I am not very good at multitasking. However, it depends on the task.

I used to procrastinate a lot when I was studying because often I was frustrated with how slowly I read and that I do not manage to keep on track as recommended. Now when I have a job, I do not have many things to procrastinate on.

It could be a useful trick. I find myself procrastinating a lot during my life, especially regarding school work, and, even if I manage to always finish on time (that just makes my brain think that procrastinating isn't that bad since I've never experienced the consequences) I should try and put myself to work before the last minute.

Thank you for the article! :)

@innateJoy9602 I think we are all struggling to find motivation sometimes. There are always these existential questions about what we are doing and wether or not should we spend time and effort at it at the end of the day. I think listening to our own needs and organizing our plans is the most effective way to find a purpose and fight procrastination! Thank you so much for the post!
