bedtime

Slip softly into sheets of smooth silk,
Breathe steadily into the realm of dreams.
Close your eyes and open them again—
Cast into a world made by your desire.

A world that speaks fire into sun-ridden days,
Also spits cool water to set aflame no more.
The shadow of night is welcomed,
And your troubles are out the door.

For a few hours—not many more,
You're granted to count the stars at your leisure.
Drift into a peaceful slumber, wake to the day's morning blues.

Further awaiting another night of bedtimes true.

@twerp Such a lovely, soothing poem! It really captures the calm and peace of slipping into sleep. Makes me want to dive into bed right now!  The idea of “casting into a world made by your desire” feels like sleep isn't just an escape, but something active, almost magical. I also love how it plays with time—those few hours of slumber where you're free to "count the stars" but also face the inevitable return of the morning blues. There's something both peaceful and bittersweet about it.
