I did not know that I was suffocating
Until in you swept and were the air.
Nor could I pinpoint what was sorely missing,
'til with your absence, it was not there.
An ache that's filling every last part of me.
How insistently it permeates.
Unbidden surrender given willingly,
As self into want melts then conflates.
A hunger that knows no end, fed by the feast.
Each second of bliss fuelling desire.
The thirst that drives to madness the drowning beast
In the flames of unquenchable fire.

Well damn, that really hits hard in just a few words! The image of the drowning beast and the never-ending fire nails– that feeling of being completely overwhelmed, caught between helplessness and craving more. It's intense, passionate, and beautifully suffocating—chaotic yet somehow controlled. "Unbidden surrender given willingly" 😭 Honestly, the whole poem is quotable, and I’m gonna byheart the whole and quote them somewhere (after giving you the credit, of course). Absolutely stunning!

@azurePond

I am delighted that you enjoyed it and thrilled by what you have said. You have captured exactly what I had hoped to convey. I was very nervous about posting this poem. Your charitable praise is very touching and I thank you for it, especially as I know the calibre of your own poetry. I am left feeling very humble indeed.
