Empty sky : A eulogy

The wind is still,
A leaf falls
not a single sound
but its a quiet descent.
The tree, once full,
stands bare,
its branches reaching
into an empty sky.
The earth beneath me
feels colder now,
like the space
where you once stood.
I search the horizon,
but there’s no trace,
just the endless stretch
of what’s left behind.
And in the silence,
I wonder if the stars,
have forgotten
to shine.

@ZenArashi Such a beautifully still moment you've captured here. The way you describe the leaf's quiet descent and the tree's bare branches reaching into an empty sky really resonates. I love how you’ve linked that subtle coldness to a sense of loss, and the thought of the stars perhaps forgetting to shine is such a poignant touch. Lovely. (Love your Art <3 )

Thank you so much, Azure. This was written while I was grieving for the demise of a dear friend. 🍃
p/s: My apology for the loss of prior response as I accidentally responded while in my other account. 🙏🏼

@ZenArashi I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a dear friend is incredibly painful, and it’s clear from your words that this piece comes from a place of deep emotion. Take your time with your grief—sending you strength and comfort. And no worries at all about the mix-up! We all have those moments. 🙏🏼

@ZenArashi
What a beautiful and unutterably sad poem. The repeated thematic imagery of void and emptying ("The tree, once full, stands bare", "like the space where once you stood", "I search the horizon but there's no trace"), instil a sense of deep grief and insurmountable loneliness. Like your previous poem I read, it has a serene stillness and emblematic quality reminiscent of a haiku. There is something also very restrained in the emotions the poem creates; not supressed so much as mastered, as if such feelings are being allowed out in a controlled and measured way. Just enough to create the piece of art without overwhelming it.
It is even more moving in that the personal aspect of it is delivered with the slightest touch, so swift we almost miss it: As per the title, the themes fit with the feelings delivered during a eulogy, but this is not a homage or comfort to those they knew...."like the space where once you stood". You ae talking directly to the person gone. So small a reference, yet it subtly alters the entire emotional landscape of the poem.
I must concur with the comment made by AzurePond, the art is perfect for the piece. And the piece is perfect.
@BastionKnight
Your ability to dissect the tug-of-war of emotion in my writing is impeccably impressive. Thank you. 🙏🏼
