If at first you don't succeed...
Try again said father
with a pointed stick
Algebraic equations
made my stomach sick
Latin verb conjugations
vocabulary obligations
Amabo amabis amabit
I simply couldn't learn it
My weekly stand in line
hands ready for the belt
Schooled in perseverance
a virtue I never felt
Names and dates of battles
Kings and Queens reigned
Stand up and say by rote
alas I failed to be trained
Repeat after me and
always remember this
Torturers playing teachers
were taking the Mickey Bliss! (Rhyming slang for "taking the p1ss")

I've had my share of canings, ruler across my hands, not ducking when the blackboard eraser headed my way, and beatings by PE teachers. They all had one thing in common, the teachers loved it!
