Trigger Warning - SA
Sidles up by my side No one around to see Pulls my hand, leans in close And smiles unsettlingly If you say a word to anyone Who do you think they'll believe You won't attempt it, right love? Pulls closer, I freeze. Seated in a dim lit room, I shiver, heart drumming, His fingers graze my trembling skin, Speaking soft yet stingingly If you scream or try to fight, Who would care to hear your cries You'll just let it go, right love? No more truths, all lies. Pins me up against the wall, My eyes a silent plea Groping, tugging at my skirt Breathes hot and heavily If you hint a word to anyone Life as you know it will shatter You don't have the strength, do you love? You're lost, you can't recover. Lying down in bed, Him on top of me. Squeezing my throat and neck, And whispering threateningly: If you say a word to anyone, I'll make sure you'll never breathe another! You'll never do that, right love? Squeezes tighter, smothers.@myredroses

Your poem is so visceral, it created a pit in my stomach as I read it. The subtle rhyming scheme you have employed is artful and enhances the spoken tone of the piece. The subject matter is intensely sad and piteous, and I cannot imagine anyone reading this and not feeling remorse for the writer.
*comforts myredroses* It is a potent poem.

This is incredibly intense and emotional. The way you portray the manipulation and fear is both chilling and heartbreaking. The repetition of “right love?” adds a haunting layer of control and gaslighting, making the vulnerability all the more suffocating. You’ve captured the complexity of an abusive situation with such rawness and honesty. It’s a powerful reminder of the silence that often surrounds these experiences. I commend your bravery in sharing such an important, difficult piece. And, it’s high time abusers are held accountable for their audacity, rather than the survivors being lauded for their courage in enduring. You’ve expressed so much emotion in just a few short words—sending you virtual hugs and soothing vibes. Take care <3

Sidles up by my side
No one around to see
Pulls my hand, leans in close
And smiles unsettlingly
If you say a word to anyone
Who do you think they'll believe
You won't attempt it, right love?
Pulls closer, I freeze.
Seated in a dim lit room,
I shiver, heart drumming,
His fingers graze my trembling skin,
Speaking soft yet stingingly
If you scream or try to fight,
Who would care to hear your cries
You'll just let it go, right love?
No more truths, all lies.
Pins me up against the wall,
My eyes a silent plea
Groping, tugging at my skirt
Breathes hot and heavily
If you hint a word to anyone
Life as you know it will shatter
You don't have the strength, do you love?
You're lost, you can't recover.
Lying down in bed,
Him on top of me.
Squeezing my throat and neck,
And whispering threateningly:
If you say a word to anyone,
I'll make sure you'll never breathe another!
You'll never do that, right love?
Squeezes tighter, smothers.
