What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is the sense of uneasiness and distress we feel in response to difficult or unfamiliar situations. According to Scott & Davenport (2016), it comes when we worry, overthink and have a lot of stress in our life. It is normal and healthy to feel anxiety sometimes, but if fear becomes excessive or unwarranted, it can start to affect our quality of life and prevent us from doing what we need or want to do.

According to Olson & Kaye (2017), the word resilience comes from a Latin verb resilire, meaning “to leap back.” A resilient person is not someone who never suffers. Instead it is someone who trusts in themselves and can bounce back from hardships. Finding hope in yourself is the best way to live. I was recently told that what matters is what you believe and do in your life. Our lifestyles can say a lot about us, for example who and what we cherish. My hope for all of you is that you are able to find your own place where you feel comfortable.

When we find ourselves in a toxic situation it is important to find someone who can help. Sometimes we have to ask ourselves not how to do something, but who can teach us skills that we need to be successful. Anxiety comes and goes.

Meditation and Mindfulness

One thing that can help with anxiety is meditation. By meditating, you are training your mind and allowing yourself to become comfortable with mental states that will be uncomfortable. Meditation can calm the body, mind and spirit. Using meditation when you’re full of stress can diminish anxiety and help you to cope with whatever problems you may encounter. Mindfulness can also be helpful. When you focus on one thing at a time and learn to focus your mind this is mindfulness.

Questions

@WhiteRoses25

Hey hey Rose, good to see you with another fantastic post! I appreciate you taking the time to make it for the community! ❤

Anxiety is something alot of people deal with in varying intensities and it does help to reassure that we ain't alone and with time and efforts, we can learn to cope with it through effective mechanisms that work for us!

  1. What do you do when you feel anxious?

If it's an environment I'm feel anxious in/about, I try to remove myself from there. Other times, journaling, brisk walking, listening to music or engaging in something that takes off my mind from swimming in anxiety lol!

Thanks for highlighting mindfulness and meditation, that's something I'm beginning to try slowly as well! Wish me luck xD

  1. Do you believe that a person that suffers from anxiety can learn coping mechanisms and be successful in their daily lives?

Yassss, certainly can and should! Please never allow your anxiety to tell you otherwise, it might be hard but, you can try and adopt coping skills that work for you, and let your anxiety know it might be a part of you, but it is *not* you! You are capable and deserving of living life as how you like and want to! You're not alone and you certainly got this, one day at a time!

Sending love to everyone coming across! ❤

I agree Sun one of the coping mechanisms I also use are music and watching foreign shows where I have to read subtitles. Especially when the show takes me a week to get through. Love Netflix!💛
