long term effects of not being diagnosed/treated

mysticmagic September 29th, 2016

i'm fairly certain i have bpd, and due to my circumstances at the moment im unable to get it sorted, i'm wondering if going without a diagnoses and treatment for some time could cause further issues?

i can feel it getting worse and worse everyday, but i'm looking to find out if their could be long-term non-fixable damage, like the illness reaching a point where it doesn't respond to treatment

After reading the reviews on your listener profile I'm fairly certain you cannot possibly have any kind of personality disorder. But that's only my opinion. Only an expert who has assessed you in person can say with any certainty.

I have read that in many cases mental disorders gradually resolve over time, and I know people in real life who were severely ill years ago and who have improved very greatly without any treatment, so going without treatment does not seem to me be a huge risk. Of course, if you are getting worse that all depends how bad things get.

Well, I explained what made me think that in my earlier reply. My understanding of it is that the reason personality disorders are called personality disorders is that they mess up your personality making it impossible for you to relate to other people effectively. It seems clear that you can relate to other people very effectively indeed, so I find it difficult to imagine that your personality is messed up. Perhaps other things in your life are messed up, things that I don't know about.
