dissociation around other people

I find myself craving interaction with my friends and loved ones so much it hurts, but whenever I'm around them, I dissociate. Nothing feels real and its as if I can never be satisfied. Any advice?

@aadalet hi! Thank you for reaching out to us. We encourage you to do so as we are here to listen and not give advice. We can give some suggestions. I did some research and the following is what I found.

(What I find the most helpful to get back into a semi-grounded state is to take some time alone to process how I'm feeling, sometimes by journalling or listening to music. Creative outlets help me a lot. If I'm in a group of people and am dissociated, I try to remember to breathe, and not to focus on my state of mind too much. I might try to focus on one thing, such as one person or an object in the room, as a way to keep me as present as possible. I've found that breathing really is key, as I will often almost completely stop breathing when I'm dissociated, and that only makes things worse. Drinking water can help sometimes too. )
