Figuring out BPD

Unicornsunshine7 August 18th, 2016

Within the past year my diagnosis has been changed or had things added to it, it is seriously confusing how different professionals opinions can be. Anyway, I was already diagnosed with anorexia, bulimia, anxiety, PTSD, and depression and was also a cutter then 6 years ago I was diagnosed as type 2 Bipolar which has totally different criteria now. Then this past year I was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, narcissistic personality disorder, and borderline personality disorder. My current psychiatrist who is the most amazing psychiatrist I've seen believes from my history that I only have BPD and PTSD, which makes sense to me but understanding BPD is proving to be a challenge. I am glad I have also found a psychologist I really like but it would be good to have some support and understanding from fellow BPD's. I chose to stop seeing my mental health issues as negative years ago, I prefer to look at it as being blessed with a unique set of gifts and challenges that create more positive self awareness. I am sorry this is so long but thank you for listening :)

You're right—all that is seriously confusing! Just because you are now reduced to only two labels, BPD and PTSD, does not mean those labels are who you are. A unique set of gifts and challenges is a much more useful way to look at yourself. The labels are important to a psychiatrist in deciding what treatment will help you best, but they don't necessarily tell you much.

I hope you've been able to find listeners here who you can talk to about these complicated issues, and who understand you. If you'd ever like to talk to me, just send me a message.
