Deserving Better

hardworkingStrings2265 February 7th, 2023

I'm facing a new problem. It's my job. I've been with this job since the middle of last year and the company has been sketchy since before I even started. I filled out the application for the company and did 2 interviews with 3 different people from the company to get the job and I got it. I noticed that I had to keep checking in after I got the job to make sure that they didnt need anything else from me. There were hardly any updates but the recruiter, when I was able to get a hold of her, said that everything is cool. A month goes by and 1 1/2 weeks before my start date I had to track the recruiter down again to find out when I would be getting the computer equipment and so forth. Three days later she claims that she was planning to call me and that she'd call me back soon. We are now 1 week from start date and she claims that she has to call all of the new hires but that she put my name at the front of the list because I had been calling her. She says that I won't be actually working for the company but that I would be working for a contractor for at leat the 1st three months and should the company want to hire me as an employee, they can. This of course now meant that I would not have insurance. They scammed us into leaving our old jobs and terminating our job seeking activities to work for a contractor so that we could ma,e them money without them giving us much of anything. I hated that but what other options did I have? As time went on more and more sketchy, sleazy, and underhanded things like that took place. I noticed that most of the people that have worked there for 4, 5, 6 years haven't really progressed much. They are pretty much doing the same things that I'm doing except possibly a little less. I dealt with. I worked full time. Taking an astronomical amount of phone calls a day dealing with their furious customers who had been conned by them. I put up with their cheap software that kept failing and day in and day out making it harder for us the employees to do our jobs. I put up with their rating us based on nothing at all passive aggressively threatening us with employment termination if we didn't get our customer satisfaction "numbers up". At the 3 month mark, on the exact day as a matter of fact, the company deactivated all of our login credentials. Everybody that started when I did were no longer allowed to log in. It was reported and they claimed that it was a glitch. It took them a week to get our credentials working again and we had to each work like dogs along with different IT personnel to get those credentials up and working again. We shouldn't have had to do that. The day that my credentials started working again, I was offered a permanent position with the company.....part-time. The recruiter never mentioned, conveniently, that the permanent offer would possibly be less hours than I was already working. I was full-time. I asked them why they didn't offer me a full-time position and they handed me some lie about how there was no need for anymore full-time positions at the company at that time. Of course by offering a part-time position the company avoids having to offer me health insurance benefits. I was taking it in the chin yet again from these people. I had no choice. Three days later I accepted the offer and I figured that I would be able to pick up overtime hours. I had been looking for another job for a little while by now for obvious reasons but I also knew that I wanted to save up some money before I left the job. I had also made some friends at the job and it sucks to have to give that up because of soul-less corporate a-holes. The most stressful, and virtually unbearable, part of the job is having to speak to the furious customers on the phone. This company has made it their business to steal customers money, make customers wait MONTHS for their refunds, promote sales that they don't honor, run out of merchandise that they never had in stock, make customers wait MONTHS for basic orders, cancel orders for no reason, etc. They are horrible to their customers so the phone calls are extremely difficult. There are other ways to do the job that are A LOT less stressful which include the chat feature, email, web cases, etc. I asked about changing over to 1 of those about 2 months into this job but I was told that they would change me over "when things slowed down". Things never slowed down. It won't because the company is scamming people out of their money. I was then told they they would switch me over towards the end of last year and the "scheduler" forgot to. I spoke to the "scheduler" then my supervisor and nobody did anything. My supervisor more or less gave me kind of a wink and a smile to switch myself over to 1 of the other channels and he was cool with it. He didn't report me or complain because he knows what kind of company he's dealing with. He is aware of how they treat us. We'll, now I have a new supervisor (who is incompetent, new to the company, and trying to impress upper management) and his errand boy (whose been at the company for 6 years in his 50's and hasn't moved up in the company much like his peers, he's a moron trying to impress the new supervisor). Neither of them are respected by anybody. The errand boy found out about my dealing with the customers through the other means of communication and he reported me. The manager of my supervisor had a meeting with me o tell me that my "numbers" were low on the phones and on the other channels but that she's much more willing to overlook the low numbers with me on the phones. How convenient that she'd be willing to overlook such low "numbers" so long as I'M doing the most stressful job. She gave me a condescending warning then put me back on phones. She then listened in on the calls that I took, giving me real- time notes while I was on the phone. I deserve MUCH better than that and MUCH more than what the company has to offer. It won't be a loss at all to leave but it is a shame to have to leave friends. 1 of the MANY things that's such a joke about this company is that from the beginning they kept going on and on about communication. They said how important it was to talk them about any issues that we were having and that they'd fix it. Even after that hack job manager gave her condescending warning she said that I can come to her about anything and that she'd be happy to fix it. The phone aspect of this job with THIS sleazy company is too stressful. You have to take care of self. There are no other options but to leave. Pardon the typos, lol.

@hardworkingStrings2265

That company does seem a bit questionable. It seems they have taken advantage of you and the rest of the employees since they tried to go around having to provide benefits. I get why you would be feeling frustrated and stressed. It maybe helpful to document any other unethical or incidents that happen just in case. 💜
