Weekly sharing of Goals! Week #2 2024 (Monday 01/08/24 - Sunday 01/14/24)

IsayUncle January 7th

I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.

But more importantly, talk about getting it done or why it didn't happen today.

To praise each other for our efforts and wins.

While supporting each other through trials and setbacks.

And to continue trying and not give up.

Remember:
Every Goal should be considered "Worthy".
Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments!
Whether they be Complex or Simple.
Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say!

Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

I've added a "soft" tag list to this thread because I start a new thread every week and sometimes it gets lost and is hard to find. If you want to be removed or added, please let me know but always visit when you can. We love to hear from you! 💗.

Here's to a Fresh Start

@IsayUncle Thanks! I really need that tag list to find this again...

This is the first week with my new job that is actually a scheduled five day work week. My schedule is Sundays and Tuesdays off.

I have to admit that this job is extremely hard on me. Physically and mentally. I'm really slow because of my age but also because of my inexperience so there's this constant dread of inadequacy which is not a good feeling.

The good thing is, I know this is not a job for longevity. I am going to use it for as long as I can use it. I already have some backup plans in the works but right now, as they say, "make hay when the sun is shining"

So I guess that is my primary goal for this week..... work my butt off (and gut, haha) and build up the bank.

cloudySummer January 9th

@IsayUncle I guess it is hard to find time for making any backup plans, too - how did you do that? I'd just drop dead into bed each night, no brain-time left for making any plans.

I've only just remembered I saw those plans over in the previous thread, wishing you good luck with your relationship cleanups.

Sounds like your area is popular for hiking and going on holidays - and wow, those are a lot of cool things that you want to build. Do you mean building actual houses for those purposes of tourism and youth crafting? Or improving/repurposing existing ones? Maybe at some point, I'll try out hiking/camping myself. First, I need to train for it, though, and it needs to be warmer or my toes will fall off... lol. Saying this as someone who hasn't left the home by foot in 4 days...

This week, I want to tackle some tasks that had to wait far too long. There are about 20 items to check off there, lol. And I want to order some things, so we can do repairs and creative things and exercise.

@cloudySummer

Re:"I want to tackle some tasks that had to wait far too long." That sounds like a great goal. I don't like it when things start to build up too much on the back of the brain. It'll be nice if you have some success in that department. Good luck, get her done!

Get your stuff ordered.... and if FedEx delivers it, think of me.🤣. (They must have FedEx there, right?) What kind of repairs do you guys need to fix and what do you'all like working on for creative stuff?

Everything I talked about last week and will talk about in the weeks to come are just directions I'm going. i've been working on these things for a couple years. This year I would just like to see some of it come to completion. My backup plan is to save up enough money to cushion the continuation of my backhoe business, the second part of my backup plan is to have another job lined up (that I like) if that fails.

I don't think there is any need to go out cold, dreary, or wet weather. You stay in for as long as you want. LOL. But it does sound like a good idea to start preparing get in shape for walking and hiking. Do you think you like walking city blocks, or out in nature. I think I could enjoy both if I were to have a daily walking routine.

i hope you have a very nice day today, knock that list down from 20 to less than 20 today. yep, you got it. I'm actually going to go and have the hard talk about the equipment with my partner today. it's part of one of my goals for the year to get that equipment stuff sorted out. wish me luck.😬

cloudySummer January 11th

@IsayUncle 3 days later... 1 item ordered, none of the 20 checked off. But lots of other stuff done, not sure if that counts, though - it doesn't towards my 'this needs to get done this week' plan, at least... Yes, we have FedEx here, but almost everything comes with DHL, or sometimes Hermes, or DPD, or rarely UPS. But no matter which one, I'll be nice :) (would be nice if they were, too, though... most don't even manage to say hi and some don't even ring the doorbell, and just drop the package into the rain somewhere... and we're lucky if we find it.).

That makes sense, with the long-term plans, and you already having worked on all those things for quite some time - it looked like such a huge pile of things to do, I was secretly wondering whether you've got superpowers...  🦸 - slowly working towards those sounds great, though!

I used to walk 4-7 km a day, no matter what weather, so this is a really huge deterioration... but somehow, I'm so tired nowadays and so easily exhausted, I don't manage that anymore. There's no choice here about 'nature' or 'city', but I like nature more anyway :) Fields and village, waterways, and if I walk long enough, small (tiny...) forests and lakes. And lots of mud and huge puddles, lately, lol, now hidden beneath a thin ice layer.

How did your equipment talk go? Was one meeting enough to get it all sorted out, or will it take some more?

@cloudySummer

You got one more day to do one thing to bring that "20" list down down to 19. C'mon now, you can do it. And yes, all that other stuff counts a lot because it clears the way. 😉.

I miss not being able to get on here as much as I was able to before. I'm pretty pooped right now so I'll be back tomorrow to continue the conversation.

@IsayUncle

So, I'm curious to what some of those 20 things are. Are they small tedious chores or larger more complicated endeavors. And are some of them inspired or dreaded.🙃?

Sounds like you had a lot on your plate this week anyway and that's really great to be able to change direction and stay busy to get other things done. GREAT JOB THERE! As far as walking and exercising goes, those things are hard to do for the winter season but it is still important to try. A little bit of something is a lot better than a whole lot of nothing. That's kind of my theme this year, to work in a direction and not get discouraged or distracted. This is only Week 2 and if that is something that you wanna work towards this year, maybe try to do a little something for week 3 and so on. A little bit of something in the direction that you wanna go steadily throughout the year.

I'm not sure why you're feeling tired and exhausted but I do know activity and exercise helps build more endurance. Finding the energy to get started is the really hard part.😔

You might not believe me, but I do know what you mean about lack of energy and getting exhausted easily. Different things motivate different folks pass those very real deterrents. For me, it is financial neccesity and I have little choice. If I had a choice, I don't think I could ever be so active. (SO No, I have no super powers.... just desperation and determination 😅LOL!)

Week #2 was good for me. I did have a good talk with my partner and all my worries were put to rest. I still have steps to take for the final transition but for week 2.... I worked in a direction and it was good. TBH though, on a different subject, this job is killing me. It works well for the direction I'm going because it'll give me a little bit of a bankroll when I try to get back into the backhoe business after settling things with my current partner.

As week #3 approaches, I wonder how I'm going to talk to my ex and my niece. This is something that is wearing heavily on my mind but I can never wrap my head around it to clear the air. I have conversations in my head over and over again and they all end the same. With no satifactory conclusion. It is ego and pride versus forgiveness and righteousness along with does it really matter if I don't think a trust can be rebuilt. It's like how do you share feelings with somebody that you don't trust anymore? I probably won't approach this in week #3 but it is a direction I want to work towards this year and i want to resolve it in the early part of the year. just blabbing out loud... blah blah blah🙁.

cloudySummer January 15th

@IsayUncle Thanks, got it down to 3 items in 5 hours. What keeps me not wanting to do it is that ... if I start working on it again, that's only going to generate more work. Well, now Pandora's box is open...  hope the number of follow-up tasks will not increase exponentially. It often feels like that for every one I finish, as a result of that, two new ones come up... It's like being punished for the work you do. It's what happens when you volunteer, and people see that you are available. I guess I finally need to understand that I'll never, ever 'be done' and find another 'signal' for when it's okay to take a break.

Congratulations on tackling that equipment talk! I know it has been haunting you for quite some time, so it's really great that you've been able to resolve it, and with less friction than anticipated.

I've just heard that weather conditions are horrible currently in many parts of the US, hoping you're safe, but thinking that your employer is probably sending people out there with the same load as always.

Yes, that next task on your list seems to be a bigger monster. Feelings have been hurt, trust has been broken - and you're thinking about it a lot, and making predictions already about how it will go, because it has always gone that way... but: you've learnt a lot, you've been doing a great job with many other things, you know how to be open and supportive. If you really want to have that talk, remember that *you* can do your best, but also, if it doesn't work out as you'd like, that the reason might be that the other one may not have been ready for it.

See you in the next week's thread!

I'm replying out of order because the reply button is not there on your Last Post.

So, I would like to say out loud.... YOU DID IT! Three items left out of 20, I say that's a big win. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! 😂. What a grand way to finish out week #2.

image_1705349359.png

I understand all too well about the quandary of finishing something and it leading to more to do. I swear, it makes a person want to give up or stop trying! 😣. I now accept it as the bane of human existence hahaha, and no longer take it as a beat down, just a continuation I didn't expect and will get back to it when I can but being satisfied with the steps that I did complete.

It's easy to get overwhelmed knowing that things might snowball but you just do the best that you can and know that you are making progress and you will get it completed. You're not being punished for the work you do, you're just being rewarded for how good you got that work done; so here's some more.🤣😭😂. You did really good knocking out that list!

Thanks for your soothing talk about my niece and eX issues...  Definitely some sage advice. Thanks.

Show, we did get hit uncharacteristically big snowstorm that's gonna go on for two days. I couldn't drive but someone with the four wheel drive came out to get me to go to work but eventually they determined that it was not suitable to deliver packages today. One word comes to mind YIPPEEE!

Tomorrow is my scheduled day off but they might call me in if the weather clears because we're still supposed to have snow all night and through tomorrow too. I know they are behind on delivering their packages now but I'm not gonna volunteer for my day off I hope they don't call me because I will go in if they call me. Fingers crossed, another day for myself

How is your winter season treating you so far?

I have a storage tent outside and the weight of the snow can collapse it so I'm going out there now to try to get off most of the build up. Then I will winterize my dog houses an kennel with fresh straw and cedar chips. They will love that and it'll be a good bonus chore done for having the day off.
image_1705351165.png

P.S. I've been meaning to ask, I know you stay involved with volunteer work but i was wondering what kind a volunteer work you do. Perhaps a good topic for next week's thread. 😊

cloudySummer January 15th

@IsayUncle YIPPEEE 😃 😻 - I'm glad for you! Hope you'll get that winter stuff done quickly, and can rest your sore muscles a bit today after that. And tomorrow, too! 🤞

Thank you for the praise, it's all too easy for me to forget completely about what I've finished, at least when it's not something like a piece of art I'm proud of, but something I should have been done with a long time ago.

Winter is pretty normal here, we are having a little bit more snow than usual, but nothing that would be unexpected, like your snow storm. The volunteering is something I don't want to be too concrete about 🤐, so I'll have to decline.

I spent most of this week trying to get paperwork together in order to try to and get the ball rolling with my father's estate

The first attempt I some how managed to miss a page to include attachments. Denied. Had to figure out how to scan things into the laptop.  Resent with everything - denied again. Attachments titled wrong - will needed to be taken from multiple pages into one document. Huh? Finally figured it out an hour after I said I quit lol. No clue what I'm doing. 14 rejection letters later I realize that this is just the start of a very long process I have no understanding of. Tabled everything. Currently researching probate lawyers 😅

I am really sorry I didn't have a chance to read this when it was happening in real time. That must have been so very frustrating.

If you had mentioned the passing of your father previously, I apologize for not remembering. Please accept my condolences.

Trying to do probate work yourself is a ridiculously enormous responsibility. They simply do not make things easy and especially when we are going through hard or emotional times anyway. I do not think it was your lack of ability or effort that made it so hard, there's just so much red tape, hoops and knowledge needed to get through it all. I give you a big kudos and am really sorry it messed with you so much. i wish i can offer some helpful insight. 😕

I know it's a couple days later, but how are you feeling or coping with things now? U Ok?

Have you had any luck with probate lawyers or do you have family members or anyone to help you work through this? Be easy on yourself, it'll all get worked out.

@IsayUncle Hey there's nothing to be sorry for! I know you have alot going on in your world - with work and projects. Then to keep on top of daily chores. Sometimes I think there's not enough hours in the day

I don't think I mentioned his passing to you - thank you for your condolences. A week and a half before I lost my dog. I'm really hoping this year is better 😅

Omgosh yeah lol! So far it has been anything but easy. I've been butting heads with his SO about the lawyer because she didn't feel the need for one because everyone was telling her it's not that hard. She doesn't want the job herself of course but she'll tell me how she feels I should do it lol

I'm mostly doing ok - thank you for asking.
I have managed to narrow down the list to 3 lawyers and put together a few questions to ask them and then we'll see where it goes from there. Fingers crossed 🤞 Thank you for your reply and for being here 😊

I'm glad to hear that you're doing mostly OK. And I must agree with you, "may better events pepper our lives in 2024". That's sad about your Dad and your dog (we love our dogs sooo much 😢 too).

So, your sister doesn't really wanna take over the probate huh? She's the smart one in the family? hehe 😏. Just kidding.  You've taken on a lot and I think it's great that you almost have a lawyer. I think there is still going to be so much that you have to do to cordinate with the probate judge and family; so I wish you all the best of diligence and patience that you can muster up as needed every day until you see this through completion. PACE YOURSELF and take it slower when you have to. These things take time so try to go with it... easy-like (the best you can)... for your own sake.

@IsayUncle Does it sound bad that I miss the dog more? 😬

Lol! I'm actually an only child. If I did have a sister or a brother chances are they would have been smart enough to pass on it. He should have named his girlfriend as executor. She's right there at the house with all the paperwork I should have but she's being slow to hand things over to me - but want to tell me what not to do. 😕 Tbh - I thought they were married. Shows how much I knew about his life
Thanks for the reminders! I do need to pace myself. I keep trying to push through things and it just adds to the stress

Hey @CyclingThroughLife,

How are you friend? I know last week you mentioned that you're really sick and tired of social media stuff. I think we all get like that sometimes. I was happy to see you join us again last week because you've always had good insights to share and offered a lot of encouragement.

I remembered you have a lot going on with work and things can be tough sometimes. Along with personal things too. I'm actually experienceing a whole new world of headaches with my newly found full time job. I hate it but I'm getting some personal benefits from it so it's working for me right now.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to get on here any earlier this week. Do you mind sharing with us what happened that got you so turned off of the whole social media thing. I'm speaking for myself here but I think the others on this thread will agree, we miss hearing from you.

Come back and share when you feel like it. It Doesn't always have to be uplifting and encouragement. It can be fist pounding frustration. That's OK too because that's what this is all about.

I'm going outside now to do all the typical snow clearance stuff that I moved from the East Coast because of. Lol

Today I feel the extra pressure to leave home because father complained about my water usage, I use water to feel safe, like washing hands. But father doesn't like this and complains about it whenever he gets the time. I feel helpless and he treats me like garbage. During this time I feel extra pressure to just leave home and go to school but my work isn't finished. The work is so uncertain and causes so much pain that I can't hope for anything better. Also this work reminds me that my parents are here abusing me like a garbage but once I'm successful then they'll press me to give them their share. I feel trapped and I know future might be different but currently the pressure is too much. I just don't like it that I don't enjoy studying anymore, I didn't get any rewards for it, rather people hurt me when I was successful, couldn't enjoy my success.

I still plan to study to make progress and dance, laugh, enjoy nature to feel joy and happiness.
