[OLD THREAD] Project Achieve Your Goals - 18+
Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!
Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.
Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:
Members:
Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.
examples:
I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week
I want to go to the gym 1 time per week
Take 3 growth path steps every day
Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.
Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.
Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.
Step 5: Post your progress each week in this thread and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.
Step 6: Once you have achieved your goal and the new behavior or habit has been consistent for 21 days, then apply for the Goal 1 Badge. We'll likely have several goals, so there will be Goal 2, Goal 3 etc. (Feel free to help us come up with better names!)
Listeners:
Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support, reply to their forum post and let them know!
Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.
Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!
Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! In this thread, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!
Step 5: After your member has reached their goal, let us know and apply for the Coach badge. More details on this soon!
I want to understand myself further.
Step 1: I'd like to get out the house at least three times a week. At the moment I usually only make it out once, and that's just for therapy. This will be harder at the moment as there aren't many local activities happening due to the festive season but even if I just get out for a walk then that's a start. I have very low energy and motivation, and can get very anxious and paranoid being in public too.
Step 2: I think once a week will be enough for now. My therapist asks me on Tuesdays about how I've done with getting out and about, so maybe having a listener check in towards the end of the week would be helpful.

I'd have to say my aim is to be able to draw for some income! I know I have to do another job if I want to stay financially afloat, but drawing makes me really happy, so I thought I'd do it on the side when I can. Even so, no one really wants to...pay artists for their stuff. How do I get my name out there without seeming like a con artist or something?

Hey what kind of drawing do you like to do? If you make anything in the comic area tapastic is an awesome website for web comics where artists can ask for donations or where viewers can subscribe (usually for a fee) for earlier releases of the artists' comics. You can start an etsy store if you have a few photos already done that you can showcase. Taking commissions is tough depending on what kind of style you have or who you want to reach out to, but it's definitely doable! Feel free to PM me if you'd like about it, I'm not an artist myself, but I am pretty internet-savvy.

I mostly cater to whatever fandom I'm in at the moment (Undertale, Homestuck, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls), so I usually do fanart, but I'll ocassionally do other, unrelated-to-fandom pieces.

like it matters but my goal would be to become a moderator, I know there are some people out there that don't want that. If I can't become one there is no reason for me to be on here. Not with the corruption and hatred going on and that's just the start of it. Getting my listeners badge has been a nightmare. I waited a whole month for nothing. At least I could have been told that I didn't pass but I think I did very well and there should be no reason that I did not pass.
hi @Fear333 glad to hear you want to be more active in 7cups. I have only been here 6 months and have felt the inertia of not getting quick answers to requests for badges or new positions. I also thought people might be working against me, but over time came to see that there were multiple factors at work.
1) Things take longer because there are so many people applying
2) The need for certain positions changes over time. Sometimes this means a huge demand and sometimes no demand at all.
3) People here are forgiving and if you demonstrate your good intentions and ability, as well as remain patient, you may find opportunities you like.
Another thing to consider is that life brings us what we need and what we are good at. It takes a good listener to have this website be successful. Being a good listener is no small feat. Sometimes I discover that what I thought was an obstacle was really a dead end street that was not on the path to my success. What I think I want can easily be not what I need or what I excel at.

@Fear333 then you still do what you are able to help others as a listener. There is the help others meet their goal forum. Great place to reach out. Many forums need posts from people. There are so many ways to help others.

My final exams are coming up on Dec 14, Dec 15 and Dec 16. I have not been very studious throughout the semester therefore my marks are not that great. Another way said, these final exams are my last hope to bounce back and carry on in the program (nursing). I do suffer from mental illness that is why it is more challenging to keep up with the demands of school. If I allocate my time towards studying and having a well-balanced life perhaps I can try to do well. I would appreciate if a listener could check in on me at least once a week to keep me accountable.
Goals for the remaining time before final exams:
Studying Goals
1. Study diligently regardless of my negative thoughts for a minimum of 3 hours per day anymore than that is excellent considering how I am.
2. Attain a GPA of at least 2.0 to carry on with nursing after final exams are complete.
Fitness Goal
3. Begin running on the treadmill at least 2-3 times a week at home to keep myself healthy
Diet Goal:
4. Eat healthier foods and avoid junk food for 1 week. This is a challenge but hopefully I can do it.
