[OLD THREAD] Project Achieve Your Goals - 18+

Laura December 2nd, 2015

Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!

Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.

Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:

Members:

Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.

examples:

I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week

I want to go to the gym 1 time per week

Take 3 growth path steps every day

Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.

Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.

Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.

Step 5: Post your progress each week in this thread and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.

Step 6: Once you have achieved your goal and the new behavior or habit has been consistent for 21 days, then apply for the Goal 1 Badge. We'll likely have several goals, so there will be Goal 2, Goal 3 etc. (Feel free to help us come up with better names!)

Listeners:

Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support, reply to their forum post and let them know!

Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.

Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!

Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! In this thread, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!

Step 5: After your member has reached their goal, let us know and apply for the Coach badge. More details on this soon!

My goals are to get my homework done everyday leading up to finals and exercising everyday. I tend to find it a little hard to find the motivation to do either.

My aim is to live a happy life with no restrictions and to one day meet my soul sister in person.

My aim is to keep a promise that I made to my soul sister no matter what happens.

My aim is to either one day move out to live with my mum or some day be able to stay with my soul sister.

Tell me is it too much to ask for?

ambitiousCity3124 December 3rd, 2015

i wanna recover from social anxiety next year :) Isn't it too much? Hopefully, this time next year, I'll celebrate my recovery

I mean to lose some weight and I've joined a gym but I would still appreciate having someone walk through it with me, eg. Following up on me and checking my progress in terms of thoughts and emotions. I've also become quite the procrastinator so motivation..

@lovingLake9438 Having lost 42lbs and kept them off I'd love to help you with this

Wanderlustig December 3rd, 2015

@lovingLake9438 I'd love to help you as well! I know a lot about calories and healthy stuff and I'm even trainer for kids & juniors which means: I have a little knowledge. I'd also suggest you the goal to accept yourself and care about you - as our society is always about "improving yourself". It's okay if you want to train hard but I'd love to help you on both sides - the fitness and health path and the self excepting paths. :)

I am a 30-year-old with a Bachelor's degree who has struggled the last 14 years with moderate anxiety and depression. (Let's be real, I was struggling long before that, but that's when I was diagnosed!)

At a counseling intake appointment a few days ago, the social worker seemed VERY concerned that the longest I had ever had a full-time job was 18 months. My degree is in a field that does mostly contract work unless you're a director of something, and when I switched to another field for four years, my job-hopping shows consistent progress--until I had the maximum level of responsibility someone of my position could hold, and I was there for eighteen months, until the stress started to affect my physical and mental health.

Now I am back in my original field, doing non-contract but minimum wage office work. There's one aspect of it that I truly enjoy, but with my apparently "spotty" work history, I'm not sure how to channel what I've found such a passion for into a real career. With my body getting older and my migraines getting worse, I would love nothing more than a (mostly) desk job where I could just be my cheerful self and not have to worry about how I'm going to pay rent this month.

Goals: Short- and long-term career planning?

I'm self harmer but I was clean for 8 months. Few days ago I did it again since I had no other way of coping. I would really wish to start that clean period again and hopefully stay clean longer than before.

I would also like to get courage to ask for help and to involve few of my friends in my recovery progress but I haven't done it yet since I don't know how to admit that I need help.

@SPNFamilyForever

Dont hurt yourself youre gorgeous, amazing and an intelligent person, sometimes asking for help to someone close to you will give you a sense of fulfillment, have courage to do that, I also needed help, it happened years ago, but without them I would still be hurting myself, they helped me a lot :D

@blueSugar4512

Thanks for showing support. It really means much to me. smiley

I would be so happy if I had courage to ask for help but I usually don't because I fear that I'm annoying to whatever person I want to talk to. So I end up not asking for help and things get worse and I just sometimes can't take it anymore. That's why I want to finally ask someone for help and not be ashamed of it.

@SPNFamilyForever

I would be pleased to be your listener and do my best to help you achieve these goals. I know how hard it can be to let others know that you are struggling, but it means so much that you know you want to let others in to help and we can gradually work towards that. Great job on being clean for so long as well, you must be incredibly strong to do that! <3 Don't feel guilty about the regression though, it truly is a part of the process and the fact that you are still moving forward is what counts. If you would like to send me a message, I would be delighted to help you work to meet these goals. :)

PS: I love your username! Supernatural is the best. :D
