I'm proud of myself

Five years ago this past January - the 23rd, to be exact - I decided to quit a 10-year drinking habit. It was the end of the "old" me, the one that never took care of himself, the one that hid behind a facade of happiness and fulfillment and the one that always stayed a few steps away from suicide.

Sobriety has helped me face a lot of really difficult problems. Without the fogginess of being drunk all the time, I can see how big my problems are and how badly I need to address them. Some of my battles in the last five years have been much easier without alcohol and, I'll be honest, some have been more difficult. Now that I'm sober, none of my problems steamroll over me, though.
