August Gratitude Challenge: what are you grateful for?
by tommy
Last post
October 12th, 2024
...See more This discussion forms part of our Life Challenges event. Click here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/siteupdates/EventsDiscussions_2666/August2024getinvolvedwithourlifechallengesevent_333814/] to read more about it! Life is hard and it's important that we're kind to ourselves. In the hustle and bustle of day-to-day challenges our achievements and gratitude can become easily clouded. This month we are going to try that little bit harder to acknowledge and celebrate everything that we are grateful for. How do I participate? 1. Every day for the month of August revisit this thread and list one new thing that you are grateful for. It can be something small like developing the strength to achieve a goal, or it could be something bigger and more meaningful. The possibilities are endless! 2. If you'd like to get reminded to post in the thread, click the subscribe bookmark in the bottom left hand corner. This will notify you each time someone replies to the thread, providing you with a natural reminder to post your daily gratitude.  3. Share the love. Share your support of others if you can by upvoting or replying to their posts. It can take a lot to share your gratitude so creating a safe space here is crucial for everyone's comfort.   4. There is no pressure to commit to it every day, but it'll be great and no doubt very rewarding if you could!  So, what are you grateful for today?

...See more I welcome anyone to commit to a goal here today.  But importantly, talk about getting it done..... or why it didn't happen yet. To praise each other for our efforts and wins. While supporting each other through trials and setbacks. And to continue trying and not give up. Remember:  Every Goal should be considered "Worthy". Never belittle your achievements and be proud of yourself for your daily accomplishments! Whether they be Complex or Simple. Getting out of bed is a good day..... Good job I say! Share your goals today, for support and encouragement.

The Starfish (Short Story)
by khloemarie999

...See more The “Starfish Story” is a fable about a man walking along a beach that is covered in starfish that have been washed ashore. As the man walks, he notices a young girl picking up starfish one by one and throwing them back into the ocean. The man approaches the girl and asks why she is bothering to throw the starfish back into the ocean, as there are too many for her to make a difference. The girl responds by picking up another starfish and throwing it into the ocean, saying, “I made a difference to that one.” The story is often used as a metaphor for the power of individual action and the importance of making a difference in the world, even if we can’t solve every problem. It emphasizes that every small act of kindness and compassion can make a difference to someone, and that we should not be discouraged by the scale of the problems we face. The lesson of the story is to focus on the good we can do in the world, and to take action in our own lives to make a positive difference, no matter how small.

Can't Sustain Hobbies For Long
by Kraager

...See more Hello! For some reason it's very hard for me to maintain hobbies long enough to really get good at them, what usually happens is that I find something that I find really interesting or seems like a lot of fun and usually after doing a couple things in that hobby I lose the motivation to continue it. tried things from exercise to digital art like pixel art and low poly modeling, pencil drawings, writing, woodwork, mail armour and other things. Does someone have any ideas on what to try or do to help? i'd love to hear them so please message me here in the thread or directly ^-^

Motivation to do house chores
by blueSpring337
Last post
...See more I've let myself get so behind with housework that I have barely any clean clothes, no clean dishes and everything needs a wipe and vacuum, I could really do with catching up but Ive only ever been known to tidy at the last minute (when visitors are due) and then it ends up being a huge job that takes hours and I usually have to pull an all nighter to finish everything.. It's annoying because I'm going through a bit of a depressive spell (low mood, haven't been able to leave bed for days, loss of apetite, reduced sleep, tiredness), but I also am waiting on an assessment for autism/adhd. Because I struggle to start tasks, get sidetracked mid task or feeling that tasks need to be done thoroughly in the most optimal order, and I also struggle with sensory overload such as the sound of the vacuum anything rough on my hands as I fold clothes, for example. I have ear *** and yellow dish gloves so it's not a valid excuse when I mention sensory concerns. Anyone would say keeping up with housechores is easy, I should do it little and often, and I've tried making a chores rota in the past but I haven't followed through to enact it. I feel awful, and consider myself lazy because I seem to do just fine with doomscrolling on YouTube or reading webtoons, but I can't seem to work up enough motivation to get my housechores done.. And realistically doing them would improve my living situation and self esteem. Anyhow, one way or another I'm going to have to force myself to complete them again as I have visitors due tomorrow afternoon.. But I hope I don't settle back into old patterns afterwards - I feel like a huge loser 😅 On the upside: I'm on Day 3 of my daily 3-5 minute full body workouts. So that's something I can be thankful that I'm trying to form healthy habits. Anyway, it's 2am currently so I'm not sure if what I've written is cohesive or makes sense. Really, I'm just looking for your advice or experiences for how you managed when living on your own, if there is any coping mechanisms particularly if you have depression or autism/adhd. It took a lot to say this in such a public platform, because it doesn't paint a flattering picture of me.. I'm ashamed of my situation and understand others would be able to get it under control a lot quicker. Anyway I'll try to get some sleep now, wish me luck tomorrow!

Being Thankful and Going Crazy at the same time. I cannot grasp the disciplines.
by IsayUncle

...See more I'm starting this thread in the first week of 2025. Three years of struggle has put me in a spot of advantage. But now that I'm in that spot of advantage, I can't seem to take advantage of the time to make it more beneficial.  I think it's because I don't have a strong support group (other than here on 7-cups). And also, being 65 is slowing me down a bit when I still need to be going full steam. The biggest deterrent to me is my brain going 9000 miles an hour about all the things that I wanna do and wanna get done. I simply exhaust myself. I have done so many things in the past three years to stay on track and push past obstacles and hardships that it's getting monotonous to keep trying and I wish I had the money that I could just stop and relax. But I can't, not even close! I may deserve a break but I am not entitled to a break. Bummer, right?  I have no choice but go strategically crazy for 2025. If I do it right, I may set myself up with some residual income.

Add Life To Your Days
by khloemarie999

Saturday
...See more "You can't add days to your life, but you can add life to your days." This quote is a powerful reminder to focus on the quality of the time we have rather than the quantity. Every moment is an opportunity to embrace joy, pursue passions, and connect deeply with others. It encourages us to live intentionally, finding meaning in even the simplest of experiences. While we may not control the length of our journey, we can fill it with love, laughter, and purpose, creating a life that feels rich and fulfilling. It’s not about counting the days, but about making every day count.
