Sutra (Short Story) To Learn From Today

First off, I would like to say that while this sutra is derived from Buddhist teachings, all people, spiritual or not, can apply this to their lives every day from now on.

I discovered this lesson from a wonderful app called Zen Mind:

Imagine that an empty boat rams into your boat in the middle of a river. While you probably wouldn't be angry at an empty boat, you might well become enraged if someone were at its helm.

Just as an empty boat that rams into us isn't targeting us, so too people who act unkindly are driven along by the unconscious force of their own wounds and pain.

Until we realize this, we will remain prisoners of our own grievance, our past, and our victim identity, all of which keep us from opening up to more powerful currents of life and love that are always flowing through the present moment.

I hope you can all benefit from this and it moves you like it did me.

Thank you for this short story. I realize that I am very hesitant to let go of my victim identity and grievances and the past. I guess it's because I want someone to tell me I am not ultimately to blame. I dont think blaming myself for certain things is the answer either. It must be somewhere in-between or something else altogether. Grateful for the opportunity to try and figure it out. . . because more powerful currents of life and love sounds very appealing.

@ListeningEmily

wonderful lesson.

"people who act unkindly are driven along by the unconscious force of their own wounds and pain.

Until we realize this, we will remain prisoners of our own grievance, our past, and our victim identity, all of which keep us from opening up to more powerful currents of life and love that are always flowing through the present moment." - this is an absolute truth and realizing it will definitely help us.
