Slowing down with plants (& random acts of kindness)
Originally a trick I picked up to deal with seasons change, that adapted well to pandemic isolation, was getting a house plant in the fall. It would help me transition to a slower pace of mind. Just paying attention to it-- sometimes several times a day, others a few times a week, watching how it grew mostly you, turning it to optimize sun exposure, sometimes seeing how it would respond to triming any given leaf or branch or after feeding it. Real life confession: sometimes I snag small insignificant branches from plants I admire when I go on walks. I stuff them in my pocket and then try to get them to root at home. It works often. (Yes I am a plant thief, but an ethical one. I try for bits that need pruning anyways.) I started making living arrangements with those. Then I went a step further and began incorporating minerals into the arrangements. I find thrm everywhere in this city, aquamarine, tourmaline, etc etc. At this point I've been getting branches of wisteria to grow around intertwined pieces of old jewelry. One plant I "stole" I actually rescued. Last year the source plant around the corner was crushed and didn't grow back. A beautiful purple plant. I was so happy to plant one of it's clones where it once stood. If I loved that plant and noticed it's absence, maybe others did as well. I plan to leave some of the arrangements in random places, but in their pots. People might smash or toss some, but my hope is to make someone's day to take it home with them, and inspire wonder. Please. Tell me about any kinds of creative random acts of kindness you'd enjoy or already do. Thanks for reading all that, for me that's an act of kindness in-and-of itself. =O)
Hey @TribeOfPug , ethical plant stealing sounds great 😮 ~ so wonderful to know you rescue plants and take such good care of them ! Plants show growth and to help them grow is one superb act of kindness ~ not random at all hehe ! ❤
