Favorite LGBTQIA+ tv/movie/comic character!a

hazelhorizons September 21st, 2020

Post who is your favorite LGBTQIA+ character from any movie, tv show, comic, or video game. If you can't think of anything, post a famous person. Explain why and we can compare! Mine is Tyler from the new game Tell Me Why. Tyler is a transgender male & we see his power, strength, & empathy all throughout the game. Tyler was created by trans & LGBTQIA+ members alongside GLAAD, and his story DOESN'T have a bad ending. He isn't given the stereotypical media portrayal of a transgender character either. It was the best, and the game I highly recommend. :) He's also voiced by a trans actor!!

Jules Vaughn is a trans female character in the popular teen show Euphoria, played by Hunter Schafer, a trans & lesbian female actress/model. I am not trans, but seeing the way she brought light to the issues the trans community deals with on the daily is to hard to not be impressed by.

@hazelhorizons This isn't highlighted that much, and it's not LGBTQ focused, but Good Omens is a favorite of mine.

Pretty much all the characters are technically non-binary, although the two main ones are often headcanoned as genderfluid and agender, and there are a few more obviously non-binary characters in the show (such as Beelzebub). Although it's not technically canon, the two main characters are also mistaken for a couple often, and the author said that ultimately, it's a love story, however that love presents itself. It has a good ending, and is especially relatable because the main characters don't fit the mold of their respective sides, and have to keep their friendship a secret (sounds familiar huh?).

The fandom is also pretty wholesome, and theres very little to no drama

I really love keisha from alice isn't dead, which is a podcast actually but it's still a fictional narrative. keisha has such a strong voice and personality (plus her voice actor jasika nicole is literally amazing) and I love the horror elements of the story and the fact that keisha is working through generalized anxiety while also dealing with literal monsters and just general freaky happenings when she's driving across the us looking for her missing wife who has been presumed dead. plus I just love the writing, as it has a lot of interesting allegorical aspects too

also dante from the book aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe is such a lovable character! I love both the protagonists in that book but dante is so especially sweet and I love that dante gets to be openly emotional and for that to not be seen as a bad thing (except by ari for a little while when he's going through his own stuff but it does all turn out ok lol) but as something that makes him unique and lovable. I used to wonder why this book was SO hyped but after reading it I totally understand, it's such a nice story !

I've also always been fond of oliver from how to get away with murder, even though the later seasons of that show made some...interesting choices with what happened to some of the characters lol. love that little hacker man, I just think he's neat !

My favorite are Beast boy and Starfire from Teen Titans, Korra, Asami and Mako from Avatar legend of Korra. I know they aren't LGBT themselves but I'm Fictosexual so it counts right.

@hazelhorizons i really really love catra and adora from she-ra and the princesses of power! i'm a lesbian, and seeing two women fall into genuine love, who aren't strictly feminine and created for the male gaze, made me really happy and proud.

I'm not totally sure, but I also am really enjoying Tyler from the new game. It's so good to see represenation (and have the game to be free for Pride Month!). It's a really good piece of art for anyone to play, I totally agree with you.

Ok, I'm feeling really old now because I've never heard of anyone that's been mentioned so far. When I was growing up gay there weren't that many icons on TV or in films. It really wasn't until the 90's that we were more prevalent in the media. One of my favorite lesbain series was the original L Word, and my favorite characters on that show were Shane, Alice, and Dana. Since then I haven't really watched anything gay-specific. The older I got, the less it mattered to me, but when I was young and searching for something relatable, The L Word was the show to watch.
