Confusion

etharislight January 24th, 2022

Heyy guys,

So I'm ace, pretty sure of that

But then I get confused. Because like I don't get the heart racing feeling, or the feelings of butterflies in my stomach. Like that's romantic attraction right? And I don't get that...

Does getting happy around a person and feeling incredibly safe also count to romantic attraction? I'm probably overthinking this

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi @Liks4433

This is going to be hard for anyone else to say for sure. Being happy around and feeling safe with someone are definitely part of romantic attraction, but happiness and security can also be elements of friendship or family relationships as well; they are not necessarily romantic.

Asking yourself questions about the nature of these feelings may enlighten you. Such as, when you notice you feel happy and safe with someone, imagine dating them, giving them romantic gifts, etc., and see if you find these fantasies appealing or uncomfortable. If you like them, then perhaps these feelings are part of romantic attraction. If not, then maybe you just like these people in a friendly way.

I'm not sure if that's helpful or not, but good luck finding yourself! Asking and answering these questions is never easy, but you're taking a step in the right direction.
