Extinguishing Flame

This sadness consumes me and my thoughts straightjacket my soul:
Why can?t the burning flame of love keep burning, long after it has been lit? Why must it slowly dim and in the end consume itself into smoke? Candles aren?t made to last forever, maybe love isn't either

That's a poetic way of describing things .. can you explain why that happens? For me it's routine tendencies and insecurities and dysfunctional emotions.
