Diagnosed with AvPD and Co-Dependency

blueClementine942 April 3rd, 2019

After a few sessions with the new therapist we have both come to the conclusion that I have Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) and Co-Dependency. For those who don't know, AvPD is more than just avoiding unpleasant situations. It is a feeling of inadequacy, social anxiety, and fear of negative evaluation. We went through each diagnostic criteria and I met every one. I am also co-dependent, which is just a fancy word for an addiction to relationships. A lot of symptoms of Co-Dependency blend with AvPD and they effect each other. I am very confident now that I finally have a diagnosis and a treatment plan. I have been hoping to get to this point for so long and I am glad I have gotten here. With so many past therapists, they have been so quick to throw out any type of diagnosis without being thorough. It's nice to have a therapist I am happy with.
