...See more Hobbies Help Our Mental Health! Mental health and self-care are intricately linked, and engaging in hobbies can be a powerful tool to support both.  Hobbies are very personal. Each of us likes and chooses something different for our hobbies, and the choice we make can however affect our mental health. Some hobbies can actually raise our stress and frustration levels, especially worrying about getting something right. The painter that can’t capture the painting they want, or the musician that needs to practice for hours every day. So choosing the right hobby for the right time can help to improve our mental health. Having a mix of relaxing and energetic, mindful and chaotic can all help to ease the stresses and pressures of our lives.  Here are a few hobbies known to benefit mental health:-: * Art Therapy: Engaging in artistic activities such as drawing, painting, or sculpting can promote relaxation and self-expression, which are beneficial for managing stress and improving mood. A study published in the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association found that art therapy can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. At 7 Cups we have a dedicated Arts & Crafts Community Here * Gardening: Spending time outdoors and caring for plants has been shown to reduce stress and improve overall well-being. Research published in the Journal of Health Psychology suggests that gardening can promote mood enhancement and stress reduction. Gardening is a topic in Hobby Zone so please post Here * Music Therapy: Listening to or creating music can have a profound impact on mental health by reducing stress, promoting relaxation, and enhancing emotional expression. A systematic review published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews concluded that music therapy can effectively reduce symptoms of depression. Music and Dance Community Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/music/]  * Physical Exercise: Engaging in physical activities such as walking, running, or yoga can improve both physical and mental health. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. We have a Sports & Fitness topic Here * Reading & Writing: Immersing oneself in a good book can provide an escape from everyday stressors and promote relaxation. Research published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that reading can be an effective form of stress relief, leading to decreased levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Reading and Writing Community is Here * Cooking and Baking: Cooking or baking can be a creative outlet that allows individuals to express themselves while also providing a sense of accomplishment. Research has shown that engaging in cooking-related activities can improve mood and increase feelings of happiness. Share your recipes Here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/FoodRecipestoShare_2652/] or share cooking tips Here  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/hobbyzone/Foodallaboutfood_1139/] * Outdoor Activities: Spending time outdoors and engaging in activities such as hiking, camping, or birdwatching can promote feelings of connection to nature and provide opportunities for physical activity and relaxation. Research suggests that spending time in natural environments can reduce stress and improve cognitive function  One special way to make our hobbies work for our mental wealth more is to ‘mindful hobby’. Using simple mindfulness techniques to improve the benefit of our hobby time. Being present in the moment, concentrating on what we are doing rather than letting our minds race. ------------------------- I hope that this has given you all food for thought,  perhaps you will look for a new hobby, or perhaps you may look at your hobbies in a more respectful way;  they are doing you and your mental health more good than you may realise!
Hobbies and Motivation!

...See more This is Motivational March and so I wanted to discuss with you about your hobbies and what motivates you to get started! Often I find it hard to motivate myself and so I might look at doing other things for a while. If I am in a 'hobby slump' and just want to find another project then that is exactly what I do. So often I might have many 'WIP' work in progress. I also know sometimes I look at all my yarn and knitting needles and groan! I love knitting but sometimes I just want to watch tv! I found my mojo when I wanted a new beanie hat, it was something I could easily knit AND watch tv lol! And, of course I got a warm hat :) So please take a moment to answer the following questions, of perhaps just read and think about them. ? Could you please tell me how you motivate yourself to spend time on your hobbies? ? Which hobby do you feel motivates you the most? ? Which hobby do you find the most rewarding? Bread and Chicken Pozole
by EzraM5

...See more Hi everyone. I figured I'd introduce myself here since I am heavily interested in looking up all kinds of different foods. Honestly had this account sitting around for a little bit now and thought I'd try and see if I can get more usage out of it, especially now as I am going through a rough patch. Pretty much the only things that have been keeping me afloat as far as my mental health goes is cooking and baking bread. I love trying to recreate the Mexican recipes from my home near the Southern border of the US and I actually haven't bought store bread since July or so, since I have found so much success from doing so. That first picture of the round dutch oven loaf was actually my second attempt at making bread, if you could believe that. I did try a simple recipe off of YouTube before and though the flavor was great, I didn't really get a whole lot of mileage out of that. So to see something that delightful in color was honestly what inspired me to keep on doing more. As I have said, I haven't bought bread from the grocery store in months. As well, for those who don't know, Pozole is a kind of soup made with a combination of red pepper sauce and broth, depending on the area it comes from. I chose to keep things simple and make a chicken pozole for the time being as one thing I would like to do is learn how to make Menudo, since I have a pressure cooker to facilitate the ease of that. What do you all think? If you'd like me to explain how these are made, I'd be more than happy to talk about it! Thank you for your time.

...See more Here’s one of my absolute favorite dessert recipes—I just love it! This pumpkin pie is perfectly spiced, with a buttery crust and creamy filling. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s a comforting treat that’s hard to beat. Enjoy! Pumpkin Pie Recipe Ingredients: For the crust: * 250 g flour * 125 g cold butter, diced * 70 g sugar * 1 egg * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * Pinch of salt * 2-3 tablespoons cold water For the filling: * 400 g pumpkin puree (you can make it fresh or use canned) * 150 g sugar * 2 eggs * 200 ml fresh cream (or milk) * 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Instructions: Making Fresh Pumpkin Puree (optional): * Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). * Cut a small pumpkin in half, scoop out the seeds, and place the halves face down on a lined baking sheet. * Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the pumpkin is soft. * Let cool, then scoop out the flesh and blend it until smooth. Now you have fresh pumpkin puree! Preparing the Crust: * In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it in with your fingertips until you get a crumbly texture. * Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until the dough begins to form. If it’s too dry, add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until it comes together. * Form a ball, flatten into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Preparing the Filling: * Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). * In a large bowl, mix the pumpkin puree, sugar, eggs, cream, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Assembling the Pie: * Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 3 mm thickness. Transfer to a pie dish, pressing gently along the edges, and trim any excess. * *** the base of the crust with a fork to prevent bubbling. * Pour the pumpkin filling into the crust. Baking: * Bake the pie for 55-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden. Insert a knife into the center, it should come out clean when done. Cooling & Serving: * Let the pie cool to room temperature. * Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat! Enjoy!

...See more Here’s what you’ll need * Eggs * Milk * Cheese * Garlic Powder * Chili Powder * Dried herbs * Small broccoli florets * Red bell pepper * Yellow Onion * Garlic How To Make It * First, lightly grease the inside of the slow cooker/crock pot with cooking spray; set aside. * Then, in a large mixing bowl combine eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder and chili powder; using a whisk, beat the mixture until mixed and thoroughly combined. * Next, add the broccoli florets, peppers, onions and garlic to the slow cooker; stir in the egg-mixture. By the way, you can also fry the broccoli, peppers, onions, and garlic for few minutes, or until just softened, before adding them to the slow cooker.  * Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 hours. Start checking at 1 hour 30 minutes. Omelette is done when eggs are set. * Next, sprinkle with cheese and cover; let stand 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted.  * Cut the omelette and serve. How To Store It Fridge: Your leftover veggie omelet can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for 4 days. Freezer: You can also freeze it. Just, let it cool down completely before putting it in an airtight container. You can store it in the freezer for up to 3 months. Reheat: Reheating the veggie omelet is super easy. Simply bring it to room temperature on your counter, and then heat on your stovetop on low. It should only take about 10 minutes to heat through. Do not reheat the veggie omelet in the slow cooker. NOTE: Also, do not put a refrigerated slow cooker insert into the heating base while it’s still cold; the ceramic could crack and food is at risk of not reaching proper food safety temperature.

So what’s your comfort food? Vegan Buffalo Wings

...See more Vegan buffalo chicken wings are a delicious plant-based alternative to traditional chicken wings.  Ingredients: For the "Chicken": 1 head of cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets 1 cup all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour for a gluten-free option) 1 cup non-dairy milk (such as almond, soy, or oat milk) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder Salt and pepper, to taste For the Buffalo Sauce: 1/2 cup hot sauce (such as Frank's RedHot) 1/3 cup melted vegan butter 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave nectar Instructions: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, non-dairy milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until you have a smooth batter. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, coating it evenly, and place it on a lined baking sheet. Bake the cauliflower in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown, flipping the florets halfway through to ensure even cooking. While the cauliflower is baking, prepare the buffalo sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the hot sauce, melted vegan butter, and maple syrup. Heat over low heat, stirring until well combined. Once the cauliflower is done baking, transfer it to a large bowl. Pour the buffalo sauce over the cauliflower and toss until all the pieces are evenly coated. Place the coated cauliflower back on the baking sheet and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the sauce is sticky and caramelized Remove from the oven and let the buffalo cauliflower wings cool for a few minutes before serving. You can serve these vegan buffalo wings with celery sticks and vegan ranch or blue cheese dressing for a classic buffalo wing experience. Enjoy! @Fuechsin
