How did you meet your pet?
Would you like to share how you met and adopted your pet?
When i was a teenager i volunteered in an animal shelter and after a few weeks i bonded with this cat and had to take her home, she's 16 now and we're still best friends :)
@NissaRevane
I wanted a dog of my own so bad but all the dog store are so expensive and so I decided to go to the humane society and get my pup, best choice ever now shes like my best friend
I met my Dutch rabbit at the pet store. My mom saw that she is the cutest one and bought her. Big mistake, she is a devil.
Still love her though.
I met my beautiful boy when he was born in my living room floor from a pregnant stray cat. He stayed with me for 19 years.
I was pretty young when I met my first dog, but my parents got him from a rescue shelter and he has loved us since. My second dog I got a few years ago in my hometown because we saw an Ad from this barn.
I'm a bit late adding here, but I'll add my own, hope no one minds too much.
We got our dog, a long haired dachshund, when he was left by his original owners at the home of a friend. They had been staying with her on rough times, but when they repeatedly disrespected her and her home she sent them away. Despite repeatedly asking them when they would be back to pick up their dog, they ignored her. The next time my family visited (I wasn't with them), we were asked if we wanted him. We took him happily. He didn't answer to his original name (visited), so we renamed him (Casino, because he loves to spin in circles like a roulette wheel), and now he answers to it perfectly (when he isn't ignoring us because he absolutely needs to chase that squirrel, at least).
We got our 3 sibling cats when one of my mother's coworkers outdoor cats got pregnant before they had a chance to take her in to be spayed. She had asked mom "Do you want one?"
So mom came home and asked dad, and he replied, "Of course. We'll take all 3."
I was in England at the time, but they all know how much I love cats, so coming home to three new little darlings when I still so greatly missed our cats who had passed a few years ago was going to be the best thing. I had been a little worried that they wouldn't like me coming in two days after they arrived. However I was quickly proven wrong when the little black one immediately climbed into my lap and settled in minutes after I returned home. Mom was surprised, since the black one had refused to be held by anyone at the time. Now he's a big lump who loves everyone who will sit still long enough to let him loaf on them and to be carried around in your arms while he lays limp and purring. I called him Midnight.
My brother fell in love with the grey kitten, calling him Echo because he was so chatty. Echo is the biggest boy who only likes occasional attention of Just The Right Sort at Only The Proper Times. This usually entails me snuggling him (a bit to my brother's jealousy since he won't stay in his arms or lap). He enjoys relaxing, 'fighting' with his siblings, and watching TV.
My sister loved the dark colored Calico and called her Twix because it looked to her like swirling chocolate and caramel. She is tiny compared to her brothers, and does not like to be held except when you're washing the dishes (she wants you to stop washing and hold her). She loves chasing ice cubes and playing fetch with straws.
I love my little fuzzies so much
My Sally was given to me by my brother in law. I had been pretty depressed and had just moved to a new city six hours away from everyone I knew and felt very alone, as one can imagine when starting all over in the middle of sophomore year.
One day I came home from school and went into my room to find a cat collar and some cat toys on my bed. Very confused, I went to find my mom and noticed there was a blockade in the kitchen and the tiniest mess coming from there.
My brother in law was a milk truck driver and was picking up some milk from an amish farm and saw all the strays/barn cats they had and scooped one up and brought her home. It's been 12 years and I'm hoping for many more!
Actually we had a School carnival and my brother participated in this game and won a goldfish and thats how our buying fish craze started. Are fishes considered pets?
hii, once theres a black kitten crying and wanting some attention on rainy night, i keep him and he always stay at my room, till now, his name is lekyy once i i named him Luna but it seems not fit him, now he comfortable with leky as name, hes so obedient and cute .. hes been with me for 5 years.
@NissaRevane. My group home owner found Bosco my dog in the streets. She brought him to me. I've fattened him up, we are working on his anxiety issues. He's learning he is safe now. I love Bosco very much. He's my emotional support animal and I'm his emotional support human. We are perfect together. Here's my fur baby!

My pet stories would fill a book. So far I have owned a total of 10 horses. Some I rehomed when we were not a good fit. Currently our herd is down to 3 horses. THey have come into my life in all sorts of different ways- from acquiring my first horse with no knowledge- to spending hours researching listings on Dreamhorse. They have simply kept me sane during the last decade of my career- no high end riding- more like learning about equine communication. And a lot of learning about myself. We feel blessed to have these majestic animals in our life- and enjoy sharing them with others.
My latest pet is the first dog I have ever owned. Also spent hours searching for a small dog on the internet- and am fortunate to have a wonderful small senior dog in my life. He was in a shelter for a short time- then fostered for two months. Now he is my almost constant companion. If it was not for the pandemic I would not have made a place for a dog in my life! Lucky me.
