I have a problem with overeating. I have been stuffing myself with food, because I want to feel full. Then, I feel badly afterwards.

How can I overcome this problem?

I think I can honestly say that your issue may or may not have anything to actually do with food itself.

Many times overeating can he a sign/symptom of other things going on in your life or a void one might be trying to fill.

If this is something that has been going on for awhile, you might want to ask yourself Why?… And take a better look at things that might be going on In Your life that causes you to reach for food? …. (Are you truly hungry? …or are you Bored?… are you working out too much causing your body to need extra food & calories?…. Are you dehydrated and maybe your body is actually thirsty and needs fluids rather than food?…. Or are you getting enough calories overall for your body & daily activity levels in general)? …if it’s any one of these, then that individual issue should be addressed “first” so that you continue to eat in a healthier way.

Or… is there something deeper going on? (Anxiety, depression, trauma or some other possible mental health issue affecting your overall well-being, such as “Disordered eating”)? Causing you to feel a certain way about yourself & food in general? Such as where you said you want to “feel full”.….if so then this is where you might need to touch base with a mental health professional that specializes in these things to help you work through them in order to overcome the overeating. And help you to learn better coping mechanisms.

But these are “some” of the things that you might want or even need to take a better & harder look at to see & understand how you can better address the overeating going forwards.

(For instance, I realized not to long ago that I “might” be an “emotional eater” when I went to reach for something I didn’t need after becoming upset by something)…

So again you may need a better understanding of yourself and your eating patterns to continue to address those issues in a healthier way.

Perhaps keeping a food log or journal of some sort (whether writing it down or through an app)…. and also writing down your personal feelings at the time you overate to better understand why you reached for things in over-abundance? It might help you to see & address how to stop it from happening going forwards. And repair your overall “relationship” with food! Such as addressing that particular emotion you felt first, before reaching for the foods themselves.

Best of luck to you on your continued health & wellness journey and we are here to support you at 7cups if you have any questions!
