Weight loss or weight gain is dependent on a number of factors, including diet, lifestyle, genetics and muscle mass.

I can understand that “transitioning” will also have its own set of denominators as well since you were biologically female…. And Also since you are only 16, Im sure this issue & concern can definitely play on your feelings. Also being 16,  Im also not sure how far along you are in your transitioning process at this time, (Hormone therapy etc..?) ….And Also whether or not you have discussed these feelings and details with your Healthcare professional (as well a possible Therapist or Counselor)?

With all that being said, for you to gain weight, you must be in a caloric “surplus” with food.

Also I didn’t see that you mentioned how tall you are? As it’s also important to understand why you might be underweight to begin with…. Talking with your healthcare provider, (Or a dietician), can also help you to create & devise a plan that best fits & is based on your individual needs. And also one that is suited to your transitioning process & goals to help you possibly gain weight in a healthy way. (Through Eating more frequently, Choosing Foods with Lots of nutrients, Adding extra healthy toppers to your meals, incorporating smoothies/Shakes proteins for possible muscle building, avoiding empty calories, and also incorporating any possible strength training efforts)!

And being able to touch base with a therapist or counselor can also help you to deal with & manage these feelings…. But Either way we are here at 7cups to help support you. Whether through our wonderful group support rooms, our Many wonderful Sub-communities, or through a personal 1-1 chat with one of our many great listeners here.

And We send our Best wishes to you on your continued efforts & journey.

Do you know if you're basically the right weight for your height and are you generally healthy considering the circumstances?

Either way, speaking to and working with a dietician, naturopath or nutritionist could help.

There's also the Trans Lifeline, a Transgender crisis line at 1-877-330-6366 staffed purely by other transgender people that may help in many ways from kind listening to resources.

Also, being kind to the self is vital for wellbeing, maybe even survival and still possible even if one doesn't know what the heck they're feeling.

Self compassion, a moment here or there putting a hand to the heart or face, wherever and however works, uttering some words aloud or internally, saying 'I don't know what I'm feeling but I'm here anyway, I'm okay anyhow, I'm not going anywhere.' soothes on the most fundamental and deep level, and sustainably grows our self esteem, love, respect and understanding.

I don't know if that's something that helps but I find that could be a missing piece of the puzzle, even if it can seem counterintuitive to be kind to the self: There's a lot of myth around self compassion such as - it's just weakness - it doesn't work - it'll make a person into a lazy loafing loser, when the thousands of studies show everyone, everything, everywhere needs it - from the most macho man, to our everyday taken-for-granted material items, to the littlest and tenderest sprout.

Of course at first, it could bring up a lot too, or seem wrong or stupid if one isn't used to it. Yet like anything new, it's possible to become more familiar with and competent at. Given enough enough time and patience, the three A's of acknowledgement, acceptance and action, and a stockpiling of emergency comfort items like something delicious to slip into and to sip, a new book or favourite show and non-gmo gluten free peppermint nanaimo bars, it can absolutely be done.

We all can become not just familiar and competent with one of the most powerful, life-promoting and peaceful energies in the world, but be the tipping point - the 100th monkey - that brings harmony and change to the whole planet. And no one has to do this. It's purely optional. In the movie Dogma, Ben Affleck character goes batshit crazy over the fact that humans are given this choice because his kind wasn't. It's an okay movie actually and free on YouTube by the way. Worth a watch. Au revoir

I know that you are worried about your weight and that everything you do isn't helping. I would try to talk to someone who deals with weight loss and nutrition.
