A Reflective Tuesday Icebreaker ๐Ÿ’ฌ

whenitsdarklookforstars January 17th, 2023

Hello hello hello! Hope that you all fantabulous humans are doing well ๐Ÿ’› *sending hugs and chocolate chip cookies*

This week's icebreaker is quite personal:

Have you ever lied about an interest/talent to impress someone? What happened next?

It's very easy to feel pressured into saying things that aren't 100% truthful. This is a judgment-free space to share your thoughts and feelings in relation to this common experience. ๐Ÿ’›

Starry Starsss, how ya beeen?๐Ÿ’› *massive hugs*

I don't remember lying about any interest/ talent to impress someone lol, unless welll we counting "I work well under pressure, and can effectively multi-task" on the resume?๐Ÿคฃ (when worst comes to hit, I can actually try doing that also, so not a "lie" per say๐Ÿ˜›)

I might have tried to know more about someone else's interests though, sort of like "yeah yeah, I know a little something about this already so I don't appear as completely clueless lol and they can feel free to share more/ build the conversation forward".๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I actually avoid lying, because as soon as someone gets to know that we share interests, they'll ask more questions and be more enthusiastic about the conversation lol and then it'll be a whole lie-loop, which I'm absolutely against of!

So no lying to just impress people. :')

(and this goes both ways, I'd appreciate people to not lie to me about their interests or talents either, we can be "boring" together xD because same haha โค)

How about you, reflect away?๐Ÿ˜›

๐Ÿ˜‚ That's so true about the resume. I have fabricated things on my resume too but that's survival, lol. It's to get the job so you can eat.

Hi, Stars,

Have you ever lied about an interest/talent to impress someone? What happened next?

๏ปฟYes, I have. It didn't feel as good as I thought it would. The person wasn't as impressed as I fantasized they would be. I ended up feeling "less than" instead of "more than."

Nope, I've never lied to someone about an interesting talent/hobby. I just try to stick to the black and white truth. But, maybe there's fun in exaggerating a hobby.

I think I'd like to share about my coloring book hobby. It's the best because I can color in the same direction and think about what's going on in my life. It's a quiet activity that I do while I watch Youtube. I think it's important to color weekly. Coloring is good to quiet and calm the mind.

Great question! Like I said, my resume is exhibit A in the evidence against me lol, but I'm not sure whether or not I've ever done that in my non-professional life. It seems like I have but it's so rare for me to do that for the sake of somebody else.

@whenitsdarklookforstars It's not my most proudest moment but when I was dumped for the what you would call him a " why do you keep coming back" guy, I created a fake social media account and pretended that I was someone else all because I wanted to be accepted/ talk to him. As bad as that was I did learn a lot about the guy that I thought loved me for 8 and a half years. the biggest thing that I learned was he was pretty shady and would tell just about anyone untruths about his partner which is pretty messed up. so I worry for the person who ends up dating him next.. but yeah don't try to lie just to impress because it's a waist of time and energy. Be real, Be honest and if they don't like it it's not the end of the world. harsh way to put it but its true ..sadly
