Open Discussion on Muting!
Hi everyone!
As muting is a hot topic around here, I wanted to start an open conversation about it!
You all have been using the mute button to better curate your experience at 7 Cups! That is what the mute button was designed for. HOORAY :)
--------> Our team of dedicated mentors and moderators have the ability to execute a "moderator mute." When you receive a moderator mute, this is what should happen:
1) User is violating one of the community/chatroom guidelines
2) Depending on the nature of the comment, a moderator will give a warning to the individual. A warning should look like this:
?Hey XX, your behavior is currently in violation of chat room guidelines number X, could you go review this guideline??
3) The warning should be professional and kind.
If you are the recipient of a warning, no worries. It happens. It's all about how you react. It is okay to receive a warning, to learn from it and to grow. If you receive a warning, no big deal! Go take a look at the guidelines and come back to the chat room to continue the conversation. Accept it as a moment of growth!
4) If you continue to engage in the behavior, another warning may be given. If the behavior continues, you will be moderator muted.
5) A moderator mute will last 24 hours. Once 24 hours passes, you will be free to enter the chat rooms again.
6) You can receive up to 3 moderator mutes. Once you receive 3, you will receive a global mute, which can last up to one year.
@heather & I are constantly reviewing the mute reports & here are some helpful things you should know:
- There is no such thing as a ?hacker or troll mute?
- If a mute is unfair, we can release it.
- Overwhelmingly, our moderators are very careful with the moderator mute and use it sparingly. Incoming reports are fair.
------> What should you do if you receive a mute?
If you are muted, no big deal. It happens. Feel fortunate for the opportunity to grow and learn from your behavior. Take some time to review the chat room guidelines and try to better understand how to improve behavior in this space.
------->Moderator muting also helps to remove trolls quickly and protect the space. We are very very luck to have such a wonderful group of moderators. Please join me in thanking them for helping to keep our space safe!
------->Let's all take ownership of our own mutes and use them as personal growth moments! A mute is reflection of your personal behavior and only you are in control of that. Let's change the culture of muting.
Not been given any warnings nor said anything inappropriate that I know of, but been muted. Can a mod unmute the account or something? Or at least explain why... Cheers
Everytime I get punished by the moderator it's because I spoke my rights and the bad people end up getting away. I don't regret anything that I say or do. We have too many moderators they don't know how to take care of stuff lol. I seen it and it's embarrassing. I did nothing wrong.
There are some terrible moderators on here who abused their powers and punish the wrong people. Then when you try to talk to them they give you attitude. Most people know how to hide so to speak just like when the police come you just act your best but then when they leave you go back to doing whatever you want to do on here. And it's crazy that members get to talk about certain things well they're supposed to be talking about depression and helping others. Reporting does nothing because I've tried many times. I get that if I was a moderator I could be warned or whatever but they would never take away that position because let's face it. The company is going to stick up for their own. I've actually had moderators disrespect me and pretty much got angry with me. How unprofessional. If you went to a restaurant and got bad service would you ever go back? I rest my case.
@Fear333 there are? who are they?
@Fear333
I think part of the problem is that this site is so big, and there are so many people (member, listeners, and mods) that it is difficult to keep tabs on everyone and do good quality control. I think that for 7 Cups, there is an effort to help as many people as possible and allow as many people to become listeners as wanted. Sometimes I think this turns into sacrificing quality for quantity (unintentionally).
The thinking space chat room is really getting out of control...what is being done about it? I swear a lot of the members/guests that visit that room are trolls....but i cant be sure:/...
@Laura
Thank you for this. And about the goals team? We are finishing up the spreadsheet and we are writing a series of discussions on goals. Yay. This will be all launched this week and I wanted to say sorry for the delay. :)
@Kaylee
That sounds awesome! I think I just approved a bunch of them on tockify! I was so excited looking at the list! Nice job everyone! these are the kinds of things which make our community very special!
@Laura
Yup! And can you please check my email soon about specific members being false muted for no reason? :/
I received a warning for saying that i was not from the USA. and then a second for asking what i did wrong, and then muted for react to be rejected because i am not american. it's just abusive.
@Laura
One of your moderators/trolls, muted the most of the chat members. Your forum to report them is useless. Sense your the expert on moderators muting, are you aware of this issue and if so are you doing something about it?
Hello.
Uh, so yeah guys I need help with something. You see, some time ago I was in a chatroom and I was mod muted unfairly. I asked the person who muted me why they had done it, and what rules I had broken to deserve that mute. The mod said it was confidential to talk about mutes. Later I found out this is not true, I am indeed allowed to ask about my mutes/warnings. And even if I had broken the rules or done something wrong, the person who muted me should have at least warned me about it beforehand. For example "You are not being professional, please be kind and supportive and follow the rules. If you keep acting this way I will be forced to mod mute you."
At the time I just let it slip, I didn't give much attention to it because it was my first mod mute and I didn't think it would happen again.
Unfortunately, this happened again today. But it was even worse because this time I do not know which mod muted me. I SWEAR I follow the rules all the time. I did not deserve the second mute/warning
*sigh* So then I asked another mod about this and they gave me a link to a file report, so that my mutes could be investigated and released. The thing is, the link he gave me did not have the option to do that. The only option it had was to report a specific mod (which I don't know who it was, in this case) so now I don't know what to do.
If this happens again,since I already have 2 troll mutes I will be muted from the chatrooms for an entire year. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me?
Nevermind guys, problem solved I don't have mod mutes.
I think I was muted because when ever I go into the listener's chat room everyone always answers me but today no one,not a soul. Which worrys me a bit, is the mute only for 24 hours? Because I need to go into these chat rooms for my internship. If it's forever, then I'm probably gonna have to drop out of this internship since it's required.
