Most important things I have learned.

Excessive February 26th, 2016

I have learned since starting this program (now on step ten) that reaching out for support is ok and helpful. Also change happens slowly so I need to not let my own impatience get in the way of my self improvement. :)

@Excessive I hope that you're finding all the support that you need here. It sounds like you've come a long way in only 10 steps!

Congratulations :)

There is always time and space to breathe and be grounded. I don't need to rush things.

Asking for help is a demonstration of STRENGTH AND HOPE for the future...

Not asking for help is GIVING INTO FEAR--fear of the unknown, fear of past negative experiences, fear of the continuation of failure. Not asking for help allows NEGATIVITY TO WIN and gives up on moving forward, on to our future.

I have learned it is an illusion to think I'm totally alone and that no one will ever love/understand me.

I have learnt that I am not alone and do have people that will support me even if they don't know me

@Excessive

Those are important lessons to learn, especially being willing to ask for help during a chat or even going to Listener Support after a particularly rough chat. Most important is to take care of yourself. To try to limit your time and amount of chats to what you can comfortably do. Even when I have my busy on, regulars and even first timers will jump on with a "hi, can we talk now." I never ignore them, but I will send them a message that I have appointments right now and would be more than happy to give them a time when we can chat online. Since there are time differences, I make sure to give them more than one option, but I have found that to be the best way to keep from hurting anyone's feelings without overburdening myself.
