A Story of "A Father, A son, and The Sky"

Hey Everyone 👋

I hope you all are doing well! 😊 I have been here for some time, and I wanted to share a small story with you all. This story feels relevant and is close to my heart. Here it is...

A Father, A son, and The Sky

On one late breezy evening, under a vast sparkling sky, a father and his little son sat together on a hill beneath an old tree. The moon was shining brightest over everything, and the world felt peaceful and still. The boy leaned back to his father, gazing up at the sky above his head with utter curiosity.

“Papa,” he said softly, breaking the silence. “Why do we like looking at the sky so much? I feel like, I could stare at it forever and never get bored of it.”

The father smiled and looked up. “That’s because the sky holds something greater than stars and planets. It reminds us of an invisible power that watches over us, guiding and protecting us. The sky is everywhere, just like this power. It’s always there, always watching.”

The boy’s eyes shone widened. “So… this power never rests? It doesn't get tired ever?”

The father chuckled. “No, it doesn’t need to rest. This power watches over us because it cares deeply. It sees when we choose kindness and honesty, and when we make choices that might hurt others. Depending on what we choose, it helps us by bringing us good things or teaching us lessons when we stray.”

The boy thought for a moment, the moonlight reflecting in his eyes. Asked, “But how will I know what’s good and what’s bad?”

The father placed his hand on the boy's shoulder gently. “Good things make people happy. They mean not hurting anyone, not taking what doesn’t belong to us, and always telling the truth. Bad things are the opposite, they bring hurt or sadness. It’s simple. When you’re doing something, ask yourself, ‘Will this make someone smile or cause them pain?’ If it makes them smile, it’s good; if not, think twice.”

The boy nodded, deep in thought. “So if I choose to do good things, does the invisible power reward me?"

“Yes,” the father replied gently. “It will be very pleased. Rewards might come in ways you don’t expect. You might feel happier, sleep more peacefully, or someday when you need kindness, someone will be there for you. Kindness and goodness always have a way of finding their way back to us.”

The boy looked back up at the sky, smiled, and said, “I want to do more good things"

Feeling warmth in his heart, the father looked at his son with pride. “That’s a beautiful choice. Remember, no matter how big or small, every act of goodness is like a tiny light in the world. And together, all those little lights make it as bright and beautiful as the night sky.”

They stayed there a little longer, enjoying the view of the stellar sky.

Thanks for reading! Let me remind you that this fictional story has a part of what I heard as a child, I have added some things to it further.

Do let me know, “What does the idea of an ‘invisible power’ or a guiding force mean to you? Do you have anything that inspires or guides your choices?” 🌠

The idea of an invisible power seems antiquated and small-minded to me (you asked!). It's us who have the choice to act responsibly, and the responsibility to do so, to uphold human society and social coherence, and to not spread destruction in our environment.

I disagree that 'not ever causing any pain' is the right way to act responsibly. Sometimes, causing someone pain (frustrating them, letting them know that their way of doing things is not okay, or even helping them by causing pain in the short term, or helping others by causing someone pain) is the correct thing to do. It must be done with caution, though, and with responsibility.

@cloudySummer

Thank you for sharing your thoughtful perspective. You’re absolutely right, ultimately, we’re fully responsible for our own actions, and sometimes doing the right thing involves making choices that may cause short-term discomfort to others. In the end, it’s our actions that define us, and acting responsibly toward both our lives and the environment is key to building a better world.

Your point about an “invisible power” not resonating with everyone is so true. Your approach highlights the importance of being honest, even when it’s challenging, and taking responsibility to stand up for what’s right. It reflects a realistic view of today’s world, where complex situations often require us to balance empathy with the courage to make difficult choices. Thank you for bringing such a grounded and nuanced perspective to this discussion.

It's a nice and thoughtful story. I don't believe in the existence of invisible power who oversees us. I get the gist of the story though, I would like to consider the invisible power as my own strength that drives me to do good things. My own inner strength that is resilient and strong is my driving force. Sometimes it becomes difficult to see through how powerful my own strength is, I push myself to seek help in those times.

I think greenery of the nature to be peaceful, such sceneries would make me feel wonder about other horizons of life like the sky does to the boy in the story.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! It's good to see you having a resilient inner strength as invisible power which guides you through the times.

Greenery is indeed peaceful, spending time in nature and reconnecting with it gives us a sense of belonging and helps rekindle our joy.

Hello there

After reading your story, I stayed silent for few moments. Well I believe in God, there Is an actual power over all things, that won't forget kindness and cruelty. I myself am trying not to hurt anyone at all.

From my point of view, if Someone believe that their actions have consequences, whenever good or bad, they try to be good.

I could say Believing in God, and the happiness I saw in faces when I help someone, inspire me the most.

The idea of a guiding force, is my faith for me.
