A great number of people today find it hard to control their Emotionsand they don't know what to do with them. They tend to believe that nobody cares for them and they feel lonely.
The majority of people believe that emotions cannot get controlled, however they don't have a point. Other people claim that emotions are detrimental for ourselves but they don't have a point either.Emotions are valuable, and offer a bounty of benefits. Once we?re able to process and cope with them effectively, we can learn a lot about ourselves and our needs . Emotions send us important messages and help us connect with others and accomplish great things.
Before starting explaining tips which will help on managing emotions I would like to clarify something else.
What is an Emotion?
There is not a clear definition for emotions, however we could define emotions as a ?full-body experience" which affects our mental and physical health in many ways. Our thoughts and our body sensationsare our emotions!
Coping with Emotions
There are some ways that will help to understand and deal with emotions:
?Recognize and comprehend your own emotions. It's really important for people to be able to understand their emotional situation.
?Determine the source of the feelings. If you can find where are your feelings came from, you can find the reason why they affect you.
?Talk about them.If you notice what are your feelings, then don't hesitate to reveal them.
?Don't react right away.Take your time to think before you react. Feel free to think carefully your reactions. This is the first (1st) step of controlling yourself.
?See the bigger picture.Think of the other aspect of each possible problem. This will help you to find better andmore reasonable solutions.
?Replace your thoughts. When your thoughts are destructive either for yourself or for another person try to change them. Replacing your emotions is notan easy procedure, but it will help a lot in order to cope with your deep feelings.
Decoding Thoughts
It's really important to decode your thoughts and emotions. If you can do it you are a step closer to manage them. There is a step-by-step process which will help to identify and manage your emotions.
The first stepis to figure out what you're feelings.
When you finish that 'step' there is an interpretation for the basic human feelings.
Sadness, you have negative thoughts about the past and you think that everything that will happen during the next years will be destructive for you; you may cry usually, have concentrating issues and feel that you are lonely and nobody can understand you.
Anger, your thoughts are focused on how you or your values have been attacked; The physical sensations are sometimes similar to anxiety, including a racing heart and tightness in the body. You probably feel totallyirritated or insulted.
Happiness, your thoughts are focused on what you?ve gained. Maybe you landed a great job, found a nice apartment or received a compliment; physically, you feel light or calm, and you might laugh and smile.
Thesecond and final stepis to identify the message of your emotion. Psychologists usually suggest people who face issues concerning managing emotions to ask themselvessome specific questions. Here is a proposed list:
?Anxiety: What am I afraid of?
?Sadness: What have I lost?
?Anger: How have I or my values been attacked?
?Happiness: What have I gained?
To Conclude
We all usually wonder how can we manage our own emotions and we doubt if you can do so. Now, you know that there are ways that will help you to stay a step closer to this. Let me explain that the information mentioned above are not emanated from my own experience. They consider elements from psychotherapists' theories and fundamental principals of Psychology.
