I will promote a healing way for all of you artist. The book is called the Artist way and week by week there are readings, exercises and challenges. Everyday you can choose what you want to focus on, the book is made for the course of the years and help you in more ways than you could have thought, i have been in and out of it but have chosen to restart it, anyone wanting to try this journey with me let me know and i will create a forum just for us if you'd like. Start your journey with mine, its not easy and there is a lot of work to do. But Iam with you for support.
I'd love to join in. I'm not entirely sure if I can commit to checking in everyday but I'm interested in learning more about this!
This book is based on four ideas:
We are all creative.
Increased creativity is a teachable, trackable process.
All of us can be become more creative than we are, and this will make us happier, healthier, more productive, and more authentic in everything we do.
The business environment will increasingly reward those people who are able to be creative.
It is this belief that prompted me to once again try to make my way through this book.
assignment the first for this week:
Before you start the 12-week process, Cameron recommends that you do somehousecleaning.Take a blank sheet of paper and list ?your fears, your angers, and your hopes? for the process you are beginning.Basically, write down what you want to accomplish and what you think is going to go wrong or get in the way.
You are welcometo list them here as well
The very first week you start the assignment that will last for everyday no matter what as best you can: Morning Pages.
If you haven?t already, please consider getting a copy of the book. You really need to get access to Cameron?s examples and the explanation on the tools and the basis for why each was set up in the way they were.
Morning Pages
Three pages of longhand writing first thing in the morning. You should write about anything and everything. Don?t try to pick a topic. Don?t try to censor yourself. Write exactly what you feel and think in that moment. Remember that the pages are a safe place (youwill notshow them to anyone else). Just write and write fast; let the words flow. The idea is to let your words connect you to what you are really thinking and feeling.
There are a fewrulesto this:
The Author suggests this to be 3 full pages regular notebook sized pages, but do what you will on that note.Write first thing in the morning.Don?t wait until after you?ve begun your day, had breakfast, or done your morning routine. And don?t write in the evening; writing in the evening will turn these into journaling and change the result.Set your clock to start early. The pages are going to take time and affect your morning schedule. You will need to make time to get the three pages done.Do not re-read them or edit them.Write them and move on.
Keep them private.Do not show them to anyone.
Assignment:
Secret Selves
Cameron describes how we all have multiple inner voices. The assignment is this:Take a blank sheet of paper, number from one to five, and list, name, and describe your secret inner selves.Try to identify the voices that influence how you make decisions as well as the ones that try to tell you that things won?t work out. Try to be kind in your description of these inner selves; remember that they are you.
(you do not have to share this but you are welcome to) I encourage you to write post about how the journey is going, about the assignments or suggestions you have to other emerging artists! Please be encouraging and gracious to each other.
My challenge to you for the month of January!!
Take yourself out on an Artist Date at least 1 times a week and let us know. An artist date can be a simple walk in nature, strolling the aisle of an art walk, going to a coffee-shop and sketching, going to an art museumor watching /reading about an artist you love or one you have never heard of etc...
A quote form a 2nd grader I taught that i hope will make you laugh,
"I do not have the Artistic Flair to hold my pencil straight!"
Be good to yourself!
Looking forward to giving these a go - thanks!
This sounds very interesting
Secret Selves
Cameron describes how we all have multiple inner voices. Describe your secret inner selves.Identify the voices that influence how you make decisions as well as the ones that try to tell you that things won?t work out. Remember that they are you.
One of the featured voice i hear in my daily life is that of my grandfather. I knew him well although he has passed on now, his sayings still direct me at my hardest times. For example, "One excuse is as good as another to do or not to do something." This man was as balanced and informed in this thoughts and opinions as any i have ever met or heard of. He challenged us to think for our selves, take a day to make a decision and to never go to bed angry but instead to have a conversation even if it is short before lying down.
2. Second inner voice would be that of my great grandmother, although I knew for less time, she never ceases to stay out of my toughest decisions. She was a womanof huge strength, never allowed things to just be done for her, and lived every day to it's fullest. Although I strive for this, I don'talways do it and when I look up to the skies, I know she is shedding her wisdoms to me.
3. the voice of No, this isthe voice I think a lot of people hear, the one that says you can't do it, you won't and never will, although it holds sway sometimes, I try to keep it at bay, this is the voice i am hoping doing the 12 steps to life will help me diminish.
4.The voice of yes, the annoying highpitched voice of yes is always sunshine, and might even come across as overly dramatic and out of reach. this is the voice i strive to hear in full glory. I'm not there yet, but I hope to hear the song of yes as an orchestra.
5. Self doubt or as Iknow it the middle voice, it is one that often runs things, it is the unsure wavering voice of maybe, but I don't know. This one feeds both yes and no, this is the hardest voice to listen to and the most annoying but ever present.
For week 2 I hope people are still on board with me, I am posting early because I will be out of town next week but I will still respond and hope that you will not only respond and read this week but also respond and read from last week.
Build upon the secret selves:
TOOL: Listening to the Chorus
This is where you refer to your list of Secret Selves.?Ask? each to write an insight or opinion on your current work environment.Try to get into the ?character? of each self when you write the insight. Pay attention to the differences in how each ?views? the situation.
New Challenge for the week, please share as you wish, respond to each other and I will do my best to respond as well. Let's keep it going!!
TOOL: Inner Mentor
You are going to need to set asidetime and you will need quiet, privacy, a pen and paper.?Ask? your older, wiser Inner Mentor to write you a supportive personal letter. The purpose is to start getting you to provide ?good? dialogue from an inner voice. This is going to be a change for many of use who are more used to having our inner voices channel negativity instead of support.
