Here if needed!
Hi everyone,
I'm very happy to have found this group!
I had anorexia for 20 years and ended up with seizures and bone marrow failure and I do not want this for anyone else.
I finally got the help I needed and now I'm just great!! Maintaining my weight and finding my own way through it all.
There is always hope.
For me it required several inpatient admissions and much therapy but when I was young there wasn't the support there is now.
Please try and reach out for support. Whether it's your GP, your local ED service or even just on here.
You deserve a life you enjoy. Not a life focussed purely on calories and exercise.

Sooo proud of you for coming this far, and thank you for sharing this hopeful affirmation with everyone!💛

Thank you for sharing. Great to hear this good news about where you are.
If you want to share, what helped you to push through the fight between holding on to ED and choosing freedom from ED? It is such a fight for so many. What helped you to make the choices you needed to make for recovery?
Hi,
Of course, though it's a big question!
The breakthrough for me was on my final admission they wanted to do the usual thing, where they got me to BMI of about 16 and then discharged me and every time I would relapse but I'd never really "broken" the anorexic mindset. A BMI of 16 is not healthy.
So on my last admission I collated loads of research evidence showing the importance of getting inpatient clients to a BMI of at least 20 before discharge.
I presented this to my psychiatrist and she agreed we could do that. (I had a friend try it in a different unit and they said a firm no, so clearly I was extremely lucky with my doctor).
Anyway, it's been 2 years now and I'm still a healthy BMI!
I won't lie, I still have anxiety around social eating and eating at new places, but my family and friends understand that and just say, you do whatever works for you.
I hope that is helpful?
