Emotional lack of eating

When I was in school I was badly bullied, I used to binge eat food a lot as a way to control my feelings. However in the last year I've had a real complex about my weight and put myself on a very strict diet. Ever since I did that and lost the weight I wanted, I've found that when I'm upset and mentally hurting I tend to starve myself and not eat.

I honestly don't know how I've developed this habit, but would really like some advice on how to get out of it. If I'm sad and try to eat it just makes me feel nauseous

Hello! You are so worthy of eating and worthy of food; please do not believe otherwise. It is important to remember that without food (aka fuel) it becomes nearly impossible to pick yourself up as you are too exhausted to do so. This creates a unhealthy cycle where one becomes weaker and weaker as not eating does not help you to fight back. You need to fuel your brain, body, and soul in order to stay strong and try to conquer the sadness.

On the topic of it being physically difficult to eat, try distracting yourself while eating to ensure that you eat; watch your favorite show, play a game on your phone, eat with others, etc. If you still feel nauseous while distracted try smelling rubbing alcohol or a strong scent to distract your senses and make it easier to eat. Remember that eating and staying strong will help you overcome this all. Wishing you the best of luck! Stay strong and take care.
