Yes, with very unrealistic body sizes that lead to girls having a poor body image. lol (No that's really a thing...)
And American Girl is similar, but it's based in history. Each doll has at least one short novel written about them and the historical period they're based in <3
That's exactly it! It's for both awareness, and so kids can have a doll that looks like them, even if they're different <3 It's really sweet <3

@MistyMagic here's a bonus fact, back in the 1990s when they had an early version of Barbie in a wheelchair (Wheelchair Becky) either the first or second version (The first version had "hair to long for it- but the 2nd version had shorter hair)- that either the Becky doll couldn't fit into either the doors, or the elevator of the Barbie DreamHouse but Mattel didn't want to bother redesging the Dream house so eventually they stopped selling Wheelchair Becky
But they had the same problem again with the Wheelchair Barbie/Ken and this time Mattel did listen and made the elevator big enough for wheelchairs.
