Just wondering what techniques and coping methods people have for tackling the housework while suffering with a chronic condition like pain or fatigue?

There are some things I simply don't do. It's a bit of a safety thing for me, as something things can trigger serious problems.

I switch between tasks, as too much repeatition is too hard on me. So if I really need to get certain things done within a short time frame I switch between 2-3 tasks, rather than doing on all in a go.

If I don't have a time crunch, I prefer to do a little bit at a time with lots of breaks. I also try to pick my better hours to do the bulk of the work or the most difficult jobs.

I also do things to make them easier for me. For example, I will sit on the floor rather than bend over like many people would or constantly bring things up to a higher level.

Thanks for this thread. I'm still figuring this out, so this is just where I am now. There are days when I really don't feel like I can do anything, and on those days I set ridiculously small goals. "Wash one dish."

On my average day after work, with just moderate fatigue and pain, I have my dailies (stack dishwasher, sweep, check litter box pad - Breeze system ftw - water plants, check/take out trash, wipe down stove and counters) that take about 20 minutes total. And I'll have one or two other small tasks I'll do after resting and reading a book, but before TV time.

Weekends, I have had this self-defeating pattern where I try to catch up and usually get frustrated because I won't catch up... so I'm working on the frustration now, rather than catching up. I have a housecleaning app (clean house? clean sweep? something like that) that gives me a schedule, and if I don't get to something one day, it will just be on the list the next day. It will tell me how long it is since I last did that thing. I like it, because I can remember I don't need to do everything every day, and I can prioritize what's most important to me. (If you can't stand having undone lists, this might not be the best one for you... I know I'll never have the list complete.)

This has helped me a lot, because I used to think, Saturday is for cleaning the bathroom, and Sunday for changing sheets. But I might clean the toilet Saturday and the mirrors Monday, or change the sheets Tuesday.

The mental pressure for me, for housekeeping, is actually much worse than the state of my apartment! So I'm trying to remember it's okay to not have it all done Right Now.

And the days I have energy, I go for it! Yesterday I cleaned out my hall closet, and put aside the small tasks for a day. Because that hall closet was a nightmare. :)
