Besides the words mentioned above what other words/things do you think of when you hear “Disability Awareness”?

The first things that come to mind are still the things like wheelchair access, because when it's brought up by someone (especially a group that isn't disability focused) that's typically what it's about.

What is something you wish others knew about disabilities?

I think a fair bit of it was less what they knew (unless we get into medical details, then there is tons!!!) but more about putting 2 and 2 together. I think a decent percent of people would agree that shortness of breath could mean someone is disabled. But then they don't consider that putting a pharmacy near the front of a store instead of the back becomes a disability accessibility issue, even though that shorter distance could really be beneficial.

What is one thing you are going to do for yourself this week?

My first thought is go to a bunch of appointments, a lot of that is fairly passive though, especially for these ones. I've noticed some worse pain on top of a chronic issue, I think there was a bit of reinjury. So some stretching, massage and being more careful with my movements in general and using proper support.

@AffyAvo, I 100% agree that putting 2 and 2 together is vital! Often I will send a friend or partner into the store because I don't have the energy to get to the back of the store.

I hope you feel better!

When I think disability awareness I think about physical access as well as access for LDs and invisible disabilities. Chronic illness awareness too.

I wish people knew disabilities have different functioning level days and also that some disabilities can be invisible but still have some outward symptoms like my autism I can show my balance issues and my anxiety but people can’t see my brain functions.

One thing I am doing for myself this week is journaling this week and reading a book on how to manage emotions.

@greenWalker8543, I have an invisible disability and it is really hard to manage. A lot of people don't realize because they don't see it until I am on the floor passed out. I too wish people understand that yes, one day I can do something but the next day I may not be able to do that same thing.

I heard this story and I thought of you!

Us short people are in good company - even a famous Olympian Gymnast is assumed to be young because she's short!

She got the Medal of Freedom — and a coloring book!

A flight attendant offered Simone Biles a coloring book when the seven-time Olympic medalist was mistaken for a child on her flight home from accepting the Presidential Medal of Freedom last week.

The 4-foot-8 gymnast, who is 25 years old, shared the embarrassing interaction on her Instagram Story along with a selfie in which she made a face in disbelief.

“Not the flight attendant trying to give me a coloring book when I board….. I said ‘no I’m good I’m 25,'” Biles captioned the pic, which was screenshotted and shared on Twitter.

What I think disability awareness is....

I think it means that people don't undermine how a disabled person is feeling... especially when it's invisible and that person has some good days, with minimal pain and such.

What I am going to do for myself this week....

Listen more to my body especially when I try to push myself to do more.

@sadProgrammer

I find it really hard not to push myself sometimes. I am glad you are going to try and not push yourself though!
