Psych ward where they allow cell phones?

Hi everyone,

I have been very depressed and considering checking myself into a psych ward for a bit to help straighten myself out. However, I really can't afford to go to a psych ward where they don't allow you to keep your phone with you. Does anyone know how I could find one that would allow that?

@kappa170

Depending on the ward, you may not have your devices taken away. There are wards called open units that are not used for acutely suicidal persons and in these wards they can be unlocked and usually allow you to keep your devices.

The concern and problem with allowing patients to have their devices is that those devices can really work against treatment. It's a double-edged sword - not having your phone can make you more anxious but it can also make you more likely to rely on your phone as a way of comfort and make you disregard treatment.

You can ask the psychiatric ward / hospital if they have an open ward and if they have a policy to allow you to keep your phone.

Hope this helps <3

*hugs* stay safe

@AdVictoriam Thank you so much! That's very helpful advice! I want to get better and I think a stay in a psych ward would really help, but I'm not willing to let my family know (they don't "believe" in depression) so I would have to keep up appearances somehow.
